Check your car - Seat Mounting Bolt Hits Fuel Line

#1

Hi All,

While laying under the car pondering things on the driver side, I noticed the rear outside seat mounting bolt had rubbed into the side of the high pressure fuel line enough to deform it a little.

I’d call this a major safety issue. I’m sure it would rub through the line in a short amount of running time.

It will be shortened to only protrude past the top of the PEM nut it goes through by just a couple of threads.

This is a real easy situation to create and overlook. I feel pretty fortunate that I found it. Thought I’d share it with you.

did you use the factory bolt hole to mount the eylet? If so what length eyebolt did you use? I used the std length bolt (IIRC it was 40-45mm) that came with my sabelt harneses and while they were close there was no danger of them hitting the line (I even put a lock nut on the back side of the eyebolt for more support) some thing longer than that I can see causing a problem…

Edited OP for clarity. The issue is not with the harness mounting, rather the seat mounting.

I have VAC adapters installed. I thought I used a stock rear mounting bolt for the seat. Maybe not, because what I used is right in the fuel line.

I believe you’re thinking of the seat belt mounting point about 1 3/4 inches outboard of the seat mounting hole in question. I am using that point for the doorside lap belt. I used a 50mm eyebolt and it is not an issue with the fuel/brake lines underneath.

gotcha, I’m running the same set up seat adapter wise (the VAC mounts) and I used all the factory hard ware with no problems with clearance, but that could be that I shimmed the VAC brackets (the front stud was interfering with seat side mount (I’m running a Sabelt Taurus XL fat guy seat). basically used the VAC mount as a template and drilled some holes in a 1/8" piece of 2.5" flat stock and shimmed the mount so that the front stud doesn’t hit the side mount.
