How do you handle the decal requirements when jumping into a non-NASA race? I’m looking thru the BMWCCA racing regs and they seem to require the following 17 decals:
Tire Rack windshield banner
BMW CCA Club Racing (2)
BMW Door Panels (2)
Evosport (2)
HMS Motorsports (2)
MotorsportCoverage.com (2)
Summit Mortgage (2)
UUC Moterwerks (2)
VAC Motorsports (2)
Even if you were ok with putting 50 lbs of non-NASA decals on your car, do you also remove your current windsheild banner and put on the Tire Rack banner?
Patton and I will probably get to Roebling between 10a and noon on Wednesday. I think Pantas/Hennig will have been thru there already by that point.

i’ll probably be there mid afternoon…do you guys think we’ll be able to get in to the track to drop off trailers? the info for the club race i got said trailer drop started at 5pm on wed…
Ok, I think I answered my own questions by digging further into the BMW CCA rules. I guess we can run our Spec E30 cars with them, adhering to our Spec E30 rules. Everyone probably knew that but me. But the manual also says that we have to adhere to BMW CCA head/neck restrain rules, and they were a bit of a surprise to me. The list of acceptable head/neck restraints can be seen at http://www.sfifoundation.com/manuf.html#38.1
I’m sure that they have the right idea on this, and that NASA is heading in that direction too. Still, an investment of, say $900, is not exactly a week’s beer money.
Subject change: Boss says she’ll give me Wed night off. Those guys that are dropping their cars off at Roebling on 5Dec…can we link up for beer and lies?
Dave, Julie P contacted the track management to ask special permission for early Wednesday drops and provided names of the ‘droppers’. If you want to do the same, send me a PM and I’ll give you the track’s email address. I suggest you clear it in advance; I’m sure that’s better than showing up unannounced.
Scott, the Wed nite thing sounds good, but no can do. We’re just dropping the trailer at the track early and heading back out of town, returning on Friday.

sounds good, i’ll contact the track mgmt…pm sent…thanks!
Scott, I’m not 100% sure, but I’d be surprised if that rule applies to decals. Sponsors pay to have those decals on EVERY car and don’t usually like finding pictures of cars without them (or any other evidence). Sponsor decals are often a tech item. I know lots of people run the stickers all the time.
PS - I might be around Wed night.
Re. decal rules when running with BMWCCA. I’ve applied for a BMWCCA license and will be at the school just prior to the race weekend. So I should receive the decals as part of the licensing process, and I’ll find out how their rules apply to us. But I wasn’t planning on actually doing the race. I’d like to be able to run with them down the road, but I want to do the SCCA school in Jan before I try wheel to wheel.
Even if I suddenly got a backbone next weekend, it looks like I wouldn’t be able to race without a HANS or similar device…An issue mentioned in my previous post that I’ve not yet seen anyone comment upon. I’ve put $6k into this obsession in as many weeks. I’d like to see if I can make it a whole week without spending another thousand dollars.
Skeen, I would like to link up Wed with you and anyone else who shows up. While a Porsche type I couldn’t hardly swing a stick without hitting a Spec E30. Then I bought my E30 at season end. And now that I’m a Spec E30 type, I haven’t seen a Spec E30 since (9 track days).
You would need a Head & Neck restraint. Good idea to have one anyways. Check out the Hutchens Hybrid that is a derivative of the R3. It’s at $450 and meets the SFI spec; also the only other device in NASCAR other than the HANS.
I haven’t worn the hybrid, but I prefer the R3 to the HANS. Hopefully Grand-Am/Koni Challenge and others will follow NASCAR’s lead in allowing more devices.

That is our plan - we want to get to Starke, FL to see the new track, we are driving down tuesday nite and dropping Wednesday morning to give ourselves time to see the track in daylight and then on to PRI…

D-CEL Model. Unless I’m reading something wrong…
Thanks, I forgot about the D-CEL  I was leaning more towards the R3 - but I heard thru the grapevine that HANS is announcing a new style of unit at PRI…

[i]Tom and I (mainly I) have a brand new, never used R3 in stock and I’d be willing to give a good deal to a E30 driver!
It’s a medium and like I said is brand new. We are set-up as a dealer for Safety Solutions/LFT and I can get you any of there stuff and will price to help out our E30 family and friends!
Call if interested.

I’m not sure that the D-cel is SFI approved. Least cost SFI approved device I’ve found is the Hutchins II for $725.
Later edit. I was wrong above. If you look at the SFI web page there is another device (it’s name escapes me) that was around $700. But it didn’t make the shortlist. It has so much fiberglass and plastic around the neck you could throw it over an ox and pull a wagon.
Alright, I guess I mixed things up. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture of a D-Cel then. I assumed it was synonymous with the Hybrid since those were the only two pictured at Simpson’s website. Clearly not. In any case, I do like the R3, just wish it had tethers/fasteners like the HANS. I’d really like to be able to switch without having four holes drilled in my helmet. I think you could install the HANS straps on the R3, but that would probably void it’s SFI approval.
All right you suckers are in trouble now. The BMWCCR elves just finished cobbling my license before the xmas rush.
With all the extra decals I’ll probably only be good for a 1.28 though.
Hopefully now that Skeen has gone Hollywood he’ll start bringing in some fans.

Michael, Last time I spoke to the folks at LFT/SS I asked them about using HANS tethers with R3 and I am quite sure they told me that was fine. If you’d like, I can double check that with them again.

For those of you going to Roebling this weekend, the Pantas and Patton trailers are down in the T1/front straight corner, so if you can, snag some of the real estate around the trailers before it all gets claimed…Let’s get a good SE30 village setup.
