Can the stock 89-91 sheet metal air dam be removed

I am installing an aftermarket front one-piece bumper/spoiler per rule 9.3.13.3.1 on my 1991 E30. I have a few questions:

  1. Can I remove the stock air dam sheet metal.
  2. Can I remove the lower lip that attaches to the stock sheet metal air dam.

can you even install a one-piece bumper/spoiler without removing those?

You bond the stock crash bar to the bumper/spoiler. You also bond brackets to the inside of the trailing ends of the bumper to support the ends of the bumper. I may also add a splitter supported from the frame.

Bruce, Good question. The one piece spoiler/bumpers I am looking at have the spoilers almost flush with the bumper. I thought it might install with the original spoiler still in place. Anyone who has installed one of these have any input?
