Camber Plates...

#1

ok, so I’m looking into some camber plates… I came across some new old GC’s (pic below). Are these any good??? Or do you guys recommend the newer ones or even another brand.
I think I read that some change the height at the perch and some are hard to adjust, can’t get to the bolts. If money wasn’t an issue… which are best, if things are tight :frowning: what’s the next best?

Thanks for your replys!

#2

no help here???

here’s the bottom side…

#3

are those the SE30 specific GC plates? If so, that’s what i’m running and love em. I’ve run the standard GC plate that ships with their coilover kits previously on a different car and had no issues.

#4

yeah, i had gc’s on my e36 with jrz… was schweet!

i’m told these are older (never used) ones, looks like a top plate for coilovers on the second pic? gc makes a newer spec e30 plate where the adjustment bolts are inset. i’m concerned about these for adjustment. should i be???

thanks

I have the new GC plates for standard springs (SE30 version). They are very nice an work great. No interference issue with the top screws due to inset.

#6

get the SE30 ones, i think those are the legal ones. the regular ones have more adjustment i believe.

There’s an outfit called Valley Motorwerks that is kind of SpecE30 central in N. CA. When my Ireland camber plates failed I bought the ones that VM Werks sells because the N. CA folks were saying good things about them, particularly their durability, and they were less expensive then most. Their store is down right now so if you’re interested it may require a phone call.

There’s an old thread around here somewhere that chronicled this effort.

geez! looks like you have to cut out the strut tower to fit these in… notgonnadoit!

#9

sent pics to GC, their reply…

Will,

The plate in the photo is a race plate and is not legal for spec E30
class. Spec E30 requires the use of a stock diameter spring.

We do have spec E30 plates in stock if that’s what you
need…http://www.ground-control-store.com/products/description.php/II=722

Notice the slider assembly is much larger and is designed to be used with
stock E30 spring perches.

These are on ebay with starting bid at 190.00 Seller listed as Spec e30 plates… NOT!

right. get the SE30 ones from GC or the valley ones that ranger posted, those are SE30 legal also.

#11

I have Walter Ford’s Valley Motorwerks ones, they fit right in without issue, achieve camber very well and are nicely made.

ok, got a set of IE camber plates $50  will i have to cut into strut tower to fit them and or get to adjustment bolts???
and… a solid setup looks like -3 1/2 front with 0 toe, -2 1/2 rear with 1/16" toe. what should caster be?
also, this will be a street/track for a while… what should street setup be?

thanks for your advise/replies!!!

I had to cut my strut towers in order to use all 4 strut bolts of my IE plates. That later became a moot point when 3 of the total 6 tower bolts stripped out the plates. Image shows one of my attempts to get those tower bolts to hold.

Image shows one of my attempts to get those tower bolts quit turning.

Use 0 toe in the rear. Caster is not adjustable, with the caveat that you get a bit more in front by using eccentric control arm bushings.

eccentric control arm bushings… the offset ones? installed the 75d AKG’s offsets last weekend… what a b!tch w/o a press.

Yes, offset. The easy way to do this is to buy lollypops from BW with the CABs already in them.

a local bmw tech told me the 75d cab’s will crack and fail soon… are they an annaual replacement? are the treehouse ones a better long term choice?

#17

treehouse is better (ran them on a previous car) but not SE30 legal.

IMO AKG is a pretty squared away outfit. I’d give them the benefit of the doubt.
