Camber Plates

#1

I need some help with putting in the Carr industries Camber Plates. I took the drivers side apart and I am unsure on how this should go back together. I searched the forum for the help but I couldn’t find the right info. Maybe I bought the wrong type? Any info or pics of an install would be helpful. The question is how that Camber plate should go in the tower. Do I bolt it all up to the strut? Or put the plate in the tower and install the strut after?

I bolt it to the strut and then install the whole thing into the strut tower.

Thanks for the help.

I also assembled them first and then bolt them to the car. You can use search this forum for ‘camber plates’ as it has been discussed few times.
Also you can find some camber plate information at e30search.com First result is very relevant to your question, and the rest should provide some additional info.

I have been trying for a couple of days to install the camber plates from Carr Industries. I can’t get them to line up no matter what I do. It will not line up with the holes in the top of the tower. I can make it work if I drill a new hole in the tower, but I feel this is not the right thing to do. Has anyone needed to do this and is it ok to do? Did I buy from the wrong place?

Sounds to me like the plates you have aren’t correct for an E30. That would make me wonder about the geometry of the rest of the plates. I’d say to return them and get IE or GC E30 plates.

I quickly checked Carr’s website and seem they sell few different sets. Which ones did you get? (for better or worse most of us have camber plates made by Ireland Engineering…). Can you post a pic of your plates?

Nobody has needed to drill holes in the tower.
Have you called Carr Ind for after-sales support?

Definitely do not drill any holes. That is certainly illegal. And you probably know this but I’ll mention it anyway. The holes are not perfectly symmetrical.

If you have any questions about what is legal, look at the Rules. If it isn’t specifically mentioned, it must stay as it came from the factory. There’s no mention of drilling holes in the shock towers.

Thanks for the input. I talked with carr and they wanted me to send the parts back so they can see where or what the problem is. I shipped them off tonight with the stock bushing so they could get it right for my car. I will let you know what they come up with. They seem like a good company and they want to make it right.
