Cage tubing?

#1

I am getting ready to order tubing for my cage. I am buying the material and a pro is building it. Anyway, I find the wording in the CCR confusing. Seamless mild steel (DOM). DOM is by nature not seamless. It is seamed and then drawn over a mandral to make it uniform. There is Cold Drawn Seamless Tube which but it is not DOM. Anyway, what do I use?

Use DOM.

One more question. Are non-required tubes required to be the same size as required tubes? I have read the CCR and one time I read it one way an another time I read it another way. I am currently on the tought of no.

Thanks,

Michael

I read it as only the "required" tubes need to be the specified size. I believe the "required bars" are

  • main hoop and diagonal
  • foward halo and A-pillar bars, or two side bars and cross-bar at top of windshield
  • two rear braces
  • two door bars each side

However, given what we can remove, and the min weight we need to meet with only 100lbs of ballast, there doesn’t seem to be much incentive to minimize the cage weight.
