So the calipers are sitting on the work bench and I’ve got the caliper rebuild kit sitting next to them and I can’t figure out how to get the piston out to replace the seals. Should it just slide out or is there an obvious trick I’m missing?

Brake Caliper Rebuild
Clear the area 'cause all of the funk that is in the caliper is about to fly all over the room. Put a wood block and a rag under where the piston is located. The piston is going to come out of its bore when you gently add compressed air to the input fitting of the caliper. Be careful, it will explode.
That is the trick, and it works.

too late, but just a thought for the archives … I have a small compressor with a knob to vary the pressure - I did the wooden block and rag thing, and just turned it up until the piston popped out relatively gently.

Bruce and Bob, if you prepare for the worst, sometimes the best will happen. Glad that the trick worked for you.

You can also hook the caliper up to the line with no pads and rotors and pump the brake. Safer…just messier. Good way to do it at the track without aid of compressed air.
