Bought a car today

#1

A local racer decided to move to CMC from e-30. So I bought his '87 325is (champagne). He ran in in HPDE and a few races last year. It still needs some further development but seems to be in decent comdition.

I have some work to do to get it ready for comp school in March:

  • install seats and harnesses
  • safety nets (he removed these for his new car)
  • new sway bars
  • check fluids, pads, etc.

I made my first mod this afternoon and took out the windshield washer reservoir, ir semed pointless to keep and seemed in the way.

I’m sure I’ll be inundating you with lots of questions very soon – so thanks in advance!

Congrats & welcome to the rat race, Mark.
Post some pics sometime.

BTW, a bunch of us have kept the windshield wash reservoir to run an overflow tube from the coolant expansion tank. See Rule 8.10.1.A which requires a catch tank for radiator overflow. Of course you can devise another method to comply.

I used mine to run an overflow from the transmission. High RPM’s push transmission oil out the overflow. Typically, I’ll have four to five ounces of oil pushed out every race weekend.

You’ll have a blast Mark! Once you get the sways in, lookout!

I’ll send you that spreadsheet on parts installed so you can start where I left off. Hopefully you can get the spec exhaust in by March. I bet you’ll have my times beat by at least 2 seconds with functional sway bars.

Now to round up all the RM guys!!
