body work - rules clarification?

#1

Hi, I just looked over a possible candidate e30 today. For michigan, the body was in really good shape, except for a small (.75" radius) hole at the bottom of the B pillar in the rocker panel. I remember the rules saying that any body work had to be to BMW specs, but I don’t have a factory manual to consult, so I’m curious: Do I need to replace the entire rocker, or if I cut a 2"x2" square, weld in a patch and go - will that suffice?

Other than that, it was a good body, bad paint, bad interior '87 2D 325is. Maybe not optimal, but I’ve been looking for a few months now and not found any better.

Thanks,
Gareth.

Just fix it using any method of normal body work and go race.

No one is ever going to care or protest you for spot repairing a rust hole.

Now if you repair the entire front end with carbon fiber panels that would be different.
