Exhausted but had a blast at Road Atlanta.
We wrenched all weekend on the car but it was well worth it in the end. (Earned a beertech sticker)
One thing that drew interest in building an e30 was how tight the SE group seemed to be; this weekend we found that to be more than true.
We suffered from fuel starvation all of Saturday (rusty tank), Lost a windshield when a lug nut came off of someone’s car, worst of all missed the Beer Party!
While everyone else was at the beer party we drove down to Summit Racing and picked up a fuel cell, pump, fittings, braided line, ect to solve the rusty stock tank problem for the weekend. When we got back at 10:00 the party was just getting good.
Golf carts do awesome on the skid pad (when the blow up sheep don’t run out in front of you) and sound like a showroom stock race, hope you guys brought spare golf cart tires!
While some guys were passed out in Ant Hills and others passed out while they were looking under our car, we continued to beat the new fuel cell in place.
just when we were feeling confident about finishing by the next morning, Malt Liquor Tech noticed 2 broken motor mounts.
At that point we were ready to forget it, sleep in and just load the car up the next morning.
When we arrived at the track Sunday morning however, Chuck Taylor had already installed a new windshield, Al had arranged for us to borrow motor mounts from indyjim and the sound of cars on track gave us the motivation. While we finishing the fuel setup, Chuck Taylor jumped right in and did the motor mounts and the car was ready for Lakos HPDE followed by the race.
Thanks to everyone involved including those not mentioned. This is a great group to be involved with. I don’t know about a BEERTECH curse, at least for this weekend we could not have pulled it off without their help and the knowledge of Malt Liquor! Hope to leave the wrenches at home and party with you guys instead at Robeling!
