Belts Harness Q

#1

My build is picking up speed nicely, and I’m at the point where it is time to purchase a restraint system. My question relates to the mounting: I figure I have to drill and mount something to the drivshaft side, but is it possible to use the existing belt reel mount on the B pillar? Note that my car is a 4 door, and I’m not sure this is the same type of mount that the 2drs have.

I’ve used a 5 point in the past. Any plus or minus to sticking with that vs going to a 6 point?

Your "boys" will thank you for going with the 6 points.

The eye bolts they sell at most race suppliers will thread into the existing holes. If you get the long ones, they can thread through and back them up with a washer and nylock on the underside for addtional safety. It is a little difficult to thread the 3 inch strap into the 2 inch snap mount, but it is a clean set up.

The european 6 pt with cam lock is the only way to go. It allows you to think about a family latter. Give Tim lee a call over at SafeQuip for great prices.

Do most of you use the eyebolt with the spring clasp attachment? Both inboard and outboard, or is there another preferred method?

Anyone willing to post or mail pictures of your setup would be my best friend.

One thing I can add is pay attention to the adjuster direction. I have the Schroth Clubman which is a nice belt (pull down shoulder, pull out lap). The problem is, the pull out lap adjusters can be a bit tough to get tight as I have a Sparco Circuit Pro which has very high sides. I would have much preferred a pull in lap adjuster.

I have the six-point Schroth system, and I love, I used to have the six-point Sparco.
One question, I’m using the eyebolt nut with snap-in hooks to attach the harnes to the bottom, but I was told by inspectors I need a pin in the hook to prevent the snap-in hook from getting unhooked, what kind of pin do I need? I figure a cotter pin would do, but I hear suggestions.

Yes a cotter pin is what is needed to go into the little hole and keep the snap from coming open.

Can’t you also use a thin piece of wire, twisted?

I did use the wire, but doesn’t look good, I got a set of cotter pins for $5 at autozone, one should work, actually two.
I first used a paper clip

+1. It’s hard to get this right the first time. Is worthwhile to sit in other cars and check out how their straps adjust. Find someone’s belt system that is worth copying. My waist straps, for example, are a bastard to adjust.

I have a question about the same thing, but mine is more about where to drill the holes to mount the lap belts and crouch belt. I have the should belts situated but don’t know where to drill for the others. Thanks!
