battery disconnect 2 or 4 terminal?

#1

Should the alternator be hooked up in addition to the battery? What is required? What does everyone run?

You need a 4 terminal kill switch so you can loop in the Alternator. The kill switch needs to kill the engine in the event of a emergency. If you use just a 2 term, the battery does disconnect, but the eng stays running.

There are a couple of ways to do this, but all require having at least 2 poles on the switch (four contacts). You need to interrupt the main power lead from the battery as well as the DME power supply (the smaller of the two wires from the positive battery lug. To keep from blowing the voltage regulator, it is best to have a third pole that connects a resistor the engine side of the main power disconnect when the kill switch is turned off. So you really need a three pole switch (six contacts) arranged as two NO contacts and one NC contact. Bimmerworld and other places have these switches.
