Barber Smack Talk

#41

Am I the only one that thinks this is a bad idea?

#42

We did it at rockingham at it wasn’t too bad. The groups were both pretty small so I’m not sure how this field matches up.

"Most" of the Thunder group goes by pretty quick, you get a few sad GTS2 guys that are so happy to ‘race’ anyone that they like to get in the middle of class battles.

That to me was more annoying then having a Nascar rip by 50 mph faster then you.

#43

50?

#44

My opinion, not that anyone asked for it but you’re going to get it anyway, is that it’s a good idea. It seems a little intimidating at first, but you can learn so much. The thing to remember is that this isn’t a points race and it doesn’t count, so keep it on the pavement and watch your mirrors. This can be a great learning opportunity for everyone involved and since it’s just a race for fun, the racers from both groups tend to respect each other. It’s work out great at Rockingham in the past and it’s been a blast, so I’m looking forward to it.

Oh, and by the way, no one is allowed to take Skeen on any rides around the track, even if you’re asking for help. Skeen doesn’t need any more track time there than what he’s allowed which is practice, qualifying, and the race. It’s coming down to this race between me and him and I don’t want him having any more advantages. I’ll be happy to take his place in the car and give pointers if someone wants help.

You’ll have to watch your mirror, but the good thing is that the Thunder guys are usually timid when passing. They’ll wait to motor by out of a corner rather than dive bomb you in a braking zone when you’re not looking. There are exceptions, but it worked out fine at Rockingham and with NASA-MA at VIR.

It looks like I have two runs in HPDE-4 before our first race practice session…one for each of you!

:cheer:

#47

No no, we’re not helping Skeen learn the track. He can pick it up fast enough on his own. :stuck_out_tongue:

Plus, I’ve already seen and driven Barber, so I’ll have more useful information anyway. :stuck_out_tongue:

Okay, you’re the boss!

I still haven’t decided if I am doing the sunday race yet either. I know it worked at Rockingham, but Braber and Rockingham are not even close to being similar. barber doesn’t have a half mile of banked race race track for Big horsepower cars to get by easily. I will be watching the Thunder race on Sat. to see what happens with them. I don’t want to spend my off season doing body work. I need to build a motor;)

Damion, don’t be a wuss. You paid for the weekend, use it. It is no different than being passed by those BMWCCA IP goobers that don’t know how to drive. Besides, the Geno’s Garage Cup may still be up for grabs.

Regards, Robert Patton

Are we doing a Barber office pool for the Saturday race? Top 6?

If you want to play, email me your choices by Friday night and I’ll tally them up.

Usual point scheme, 5 points per racer anywhere in the top 6, with additional 5 points for each finishing position you predict correctly.

First tiebreaker is most correct by exact finishing position.

Y’all have fun out there, the #401 is going to be sitting this one out.

Send your entries to chuck@factory3performance.com

Laura has won the first two rounds, we can’t let her go 3 for 3 now can we, guys?

Dear Laura Lou, Intimidation never entered my mind. With age comes wisdom, and like
Damion, I question the wisdom of putting 80 or so cars on a track this size that was designed for motorcycle racing, (ie) short straightaways and numerous turns. Rockingham and its high banks provide plenty of passing zones, Barber as you well know isn’t quite as forgiving.

I’m planning to be real good Saturday and real smart Sunday. Just not sure at this point if "real smart" means leaving the track real early Sunday.

See you soon.

Seriously, you guys have enough skill and experience to do just fine on Sunday.

Now if they were calling for rain, it would certainly be another story…

T-Bone,

Something to think about… you might want to reconsider first lap shenanigans like Roebling because I’m willing to bet it would be cheaper for someone to just hit you instead of damaging Armco during an avoidance maneuver.

Seriously it should be a good weekend. I’m definitely looking forward to it. Especially with all six cylinders firing.

You got that right. How many fenders, bumpers and fiddly plastic things can you buy in place of $1,625 worth of Armco? And that was 3 years ago…Inflation, you know?

Good grief, how many feet or armco did you smash? VIR is a bargan at $200 per section plus for no extra charge you get the VIR racing green custom paint accents.:woohoo:

#58

It was two lengths. Hit, bounced away, came back a few yards downtrack and hit again. I figured at least I’d get a brass plate to recognize my contribution, but nothing. To add insult to injury, came back the next year to watch the Grand Am race, and the car club corral was positioned right across from "my" guardrail. Got to stare at it all freaking day.

Also, I destroyed just about the cleanest E30 DE car I’ve ever seen…Replaced it with a $400 crapbox, so the Armco cost me 4X the replacement car. Where’s the justice in that?

Beware the kink, it is not your friend.
