Ballast mounting

#1

Anybody have any pictures of what they used and how it’s mounted? I’m looking at adding almost 75# of ballast total (NOT including spare tire).

seems like i need ballast too… seems silly to require 75-100lbs of ballast in an e30. where can i get it?

I’m bringing this thread back up. I am planning on running some TTE at a weight of 2775, so I am pretty sure I will need to run some ballast. Any pictures other than Tower or any suggestions on how to mount or where to get the cheapest ballst.

Here are a few pics of my ballast setup. I used 1" by 8" plate steel welded to angle iron and bolted to the passenger seat mounting points. The base plate weighs 40 lbs and is the attachment point for all other weights; I have a 35 lb plate and four 15 lb plates that can be easily attached in several arrangements using 1/2" bolts. I designed this system to comply with last year’s rules and it works very, very well. I got the steel from a local structural steel fab shop; to them, it was just scrap.

I have seen a car that uses a pair of NFG cast iron 5.0L Ford cylinder heads bolted to a 3/16" steel plate as ballast. 50 lbs each, dirt cheap, and you can probably find some on your local Craigslist so you don’t have to pay shipping.
