Anyone know the difference between an ABS equipped “E” axle half shaft and an “I”? BMW gave them different part numbers so I assume there is some difference. Which leads to the obvious next question. Can they be used interchangeably? Different ABS rings perhaps? I can’t imagine what else it could be.

Not positive, but I imagine that if you looked further you’ll find one part # supercedes to the other. IOW they should be interchangeable, as long as it has the ABS ring.
Two part numbers, two applications. One axle is used for vehicles equipped with ABS, the other is used with vehicles without ABS. The axles are interchangable, although your ABS will be inop with the lesser expensive or the axle without the ABS Sensor ring is used in the vehicle with ABS.
