Are Complete Suspension Kits Worth It?

#1

Hey, first post. I’ve been lurking a bit for the past year trying to put together a list of parts for building my car. After some family health issues and moving, I’ve finally got the time and space to put together a car. I was looking on Carr’s site and found a complete Spec E30 suspension kit, right here http://store.nexternal.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=carronline&StoreType=BtoC&Count1=654171168&Count2=571311593&CategoryID=28&Target=products.asp

I was piecing together my list separately, but how’s the quality of the pieces in this kit? Is it worth it, or should I just put it together separately? I’m new to E30s, not new to working on cars. I’m not sure how people like Carr’s SSK or if the bushing in this kit are top quality. I’m just a little cautious anytime I see an all-in-one “easy” kit for anything. Makes me wonder if it’s made up of second-rate pieces for the sake of a low price. Thanks for any advice and help

It depends on how much you want to spend and the experience of the shop you’re buying from. Our complete kit has gone through some changes as we find better pieces to include in it. No one manufacturer has the best of everything… we shy away from selling a complete generic kit and prefer to work with customers individually. IMO a complete kit is good for street cars. I think the best way to build a kit is 1 on 1 over the phone or in person with someone who has real world experience. I am not saying that CARR does not do these things too… I do encourage you to call before you buy though.

Carr Industries is a good company, I have ordered a few things from them and they have great customer service. I would give them a call.

Ask for Carmine.

Yeah most of the stuff I see in the kit are the usual things. I’m just real wary of any kits. I’m actually about an hour away from their shop, so I’ll probably be buying from them quite a bit. No waiting, no shipping. I’ll give them a call this week and maybe I can take a look for myself when I drive over.

I bought my complete kit from Carr. I called and talked to carmine, he was very helpful, as I didn’t need every item. I upgraded to adjustable rtabs, got credit back for motor and trans mounts, shifter, and wheel studs… I would also recommend calling, and have them build a custom kit for you.
