Hi,
I am interested in running in Spec e30, but was wondering if there are any people running in SoCal? I know there are a few racersin the SF bay area, but is there anyone closer to LA?
Jon
Anyone in SoCal?
Yes, Steve and maybe a couple of others in various builds. This has been discussed, might want to search. There is another current thread to roll call current racers/builders but few of the west coasters have rung in yet. I would guess about 3-6 in each Northern and Southern Cal this year. I’m hoping once there is a Spec E30 presence at more races/HPDE that it will generate more interest and it will grow as it has in other parts of the country.

Hi, I’m in SoCal and am in the process of finding a donor car or built Spec E30. I hope to get my comp license in 2007.
I’ll be running a Honda Civic Si in the HPDE group at Willow Springs this coming February.
Mike
Mike - I may be there, though it’s highly unlikely at this point. I tore my rotator cup (left arm, at least) so I’m having some issues with getting my car together for this upcoming season. Actually, I’m also having some issues getting the driver ready for the upcoming season, since right now I can’t lift my arm.
I wanted to get some testing in before Cal Speedway to try the new suspension, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

Ouch, that sucks! I messed up my right rotator cuff (weight lifting injury) a few months ago and only recently recovered. Actually, it’s not quite 100%. I found that a sports medicine doctor helped me the most. Good luck!
I’ll be there instructing that weekend with NASA, driving either my '05 Evo VIII or my buddies wide body '06 Civic Si Time Attack Car. That’s IF he finishes it in time.
Like a lot of you out there, I’m waiting to see if Spec E30 catches on in SoCal. Don’t want to be the only one out there racing myself!

If there was a spec e30 car in California for every time I’ve heard that in the last couple of years we’d dwarf spec miata. Not to point out the obvious, but if everyone waits for the series to get going out here before building a car…it never will!
Aye…
I’m getting mine ready. I’m figuring late summer to fall to start up. I know it’s late in the seaon, and I don’t care if I am the only one on the track. I don’t care as long as I’m on the track.
I’ll be at Cali Speedway, just signed up. Car is getting ready.Well, I’m getting the car ready.
Who’s the tyre supplier at the Speedway? Just in case I need an extra set.
Anybody getting a garage?

Cool - I noticed too that they opened registration. I can’t wait!!
What state is your car in now? I was planning on running with the BMW CR, and have made a few non-spec modifications to the car to try to make it more competitive in KP, but now that CR isn’t going to be at this event I’ll be running in GTS.
I don’t know who does tire support at Cal Speedway, but a word to the wise - bring plenty of rubber. A couple of years ago I corded my rear tires at this event on Sunday morning & the tire folks had NOTHING that would fit. Literally, I drove around the paddock until I found someone with some scrub 205’s that they were going to throw away, and ran on them!
I haven’t decided yet on whether or not to get a garage.
First stage tonight, brake pads, rotors, ss lines, flush radiator, air filter. Next suspension, between tomorrow, and next week. Week after stripping, tune-up. After that head gasket, and then cage installation. If everything goes as planned, it should be done in 4-5 weeks, if the cage arrives on time.
What class? Spec E30 is only one class, if I don’t pass tech, then who knows, wherever they have space.
I want to know who the tyre supplier is so I can order in advance and have them installed at the track. I already have two sets.
Where you there in 2005? I ran HPDE 3 in my yellow Z3.
I’m sure they’ll have garages available.
you can also run in GTS or PT at NASA events if there aren’t enough Spec E30 competitors.
cheers,
bruce
BET - that will be cool having another e30 racing! I’m not sure how many BMW club racers are going to be there, so I figured I’d be racing with the 944’s. Hope all goes well with getting the car in shape. Are you licensed, or are you taking the school at Willow Springs in February?
Yes, I was at Cal Speedway in 2005. That was actually my first race!

Those are racing series, not classes, right? Besides this is the Spec E30 forum, and used to have two classes SO and SU which might’ve caused the confussion.
Question, if I’m the only one Spec E30 (I doubt it), then the race gets cancelled?
Yeah, most probably we’ll be in the same group as the 944 and Factory Five.
I already went to school last November, just waiting until next week for my medical exam so I can get the provisional license.

Correct - those are series, each with classes within them. As stated, I’ve decided to make some modifications to my car in order to (hopefully) be more competitive racing KP with the BMW club, and give the many fine Californians who are currently building spec cars time to complete their projects. I plan to return my car to spec specs once a few are on-track, but after 2 seasons I simply grew impatient waiting. (sorry everyone!)
NASA will run the Spec e30 cars with the GTS, spec 944, spec miata, honda challenge, etc… when the BMW club isn’t in attendance (when they are spec e30 will run with them, I assume). So, we will be on the track at the same time. Though it would be great if I’m wrong, I’ll bet you will be the only spec car on the track. I would be the 2nd if I’d known last fall that another car would be ready!
First Spec E30 in Socal? You got to be kidding.
So what happens then? I get points even if I’m the only one?
What do you need to have it ready? I mean, if you get a street legal 325 with all the safety equipment and Toyo tyres you can be running.
Anyway, I’ll keep working on the car tonight. I’m not rushing since I have to wait until the end of February for my cage.

Donor car in Socal? Plenty of them, specially around Glendale (joke)
I got one in with no engine, or I can find one around here, just let me know how much you want to pay.

you need all the spec suspension stuff also.
Steve’s car has been in Spec E30 correct form, but he swapped a few things like the diff and tires to be more competitive in BMW KP class for now.
cheers,
bruce
