Anyone going to ARRC at RA this weekend?

SCCA’s regional championship event is this weekend. Details on the Atlanta Region SCCA website including schedule. Various public ticket options, but a Sat or Sun one-day is $25.

I’ve never attended an SCCA race, but I’m thinking of heading up Saturday to check it out. Anyone else local considering it?

Chuck -

I just put you on my ‘crew’ list. I have 3 more spots if you have other takers. I am not positive about this, but I believe you can come in under a free crew pass even without an SCCA membership but you considered a ‘visitor’ and are prohibited from entering “hazardous areas”. I guess that means I can’t put you to work in the pits, but you can roam around the paddock.

Here’s what the supps say:
B. Credentials: The entry fee entitles each entry to five (5) passes to include all drivers, entrant, and crew members as applicable. No driver changes will be allowed after 11 AM on Saturday. Only SCCA members will be issued crew credentials. Non-members will receive visitor passes and may not enter hazardous areas. Members and non-members must wear their credentials/passes visible at all times. Credentials are valid only for the person to whom they are issued. Credential fraud of any kind will result in a penalty to anyone involved.

Chuck, Steve is correct…you can get in on a crew list. The only place you can’t go is the hot pits…everywhere else, including the parti Saturday night is fine. Chuck

Steve, that’s great; thank you very much. Which side will you be paddocked on, and should I look for the OPM compound to find you?

#5

Once again I’ll be there flagging. Fri Sat and Sunday

We will be in the club paddock. OPM usually sets up on the far side of the skid pad so we have a good view of Turn 1. Chuck B will be down below there I believe.

Yea, I’ll be down in the swamp, away from all the stuff (brought my own stff)!!Chuck

Just got an email that registration closes at 10 am so if you arrive after that, you will need to purchase a ticket.

54 Miatas signed up so far (mostly SMs, but some SM2s - class for the pop-up headlight cars that excludes the 99-ups, and SSM - a class popular in the DC region that uses OEM airboxes and spec exhaust).

It’ll look like someone poured out a bag of Skittles in Turn 1. I’ll be lucky to qualify in the top half. Ugh.

ARRC schedule

Starting at 1:00 there are Veterans Day ceremonies followed by a 40 minute qualifying session for other groups. I would expect we will take the green around 2:00 give or take 15 minutes. But as I posted earlier, the 10 am registration cutoff is a factor assuming you want to save $25.

#13

How about I just blue flag you every lap? LOL
Good luck in the race.

#14

Dammit Steve…went by the OPM trailer 5 times looking for you and never found you…how do you like Spec Miata at the ARRC? Chuck

#15

Sorry we missed each other Chuck. I went down to the swamp with Chuck T on Saturday but all we saw was a lonely E30 with a hard shell taco shaped control arm. Did that happen in ProIT qual? I thought I saw you at the side of the track in 4.

The Miata was fun. I’m kind of rusty. Palacio and I took 5th of 13 today in the enduro, so suffice it to say he’s a quick study (first time in an SM was in qual - and he put us 7th out of 13).

In first ARRC Q I losst 3 cylinders about half way through. The good guys at DIY Autotune fixed the ECU, but I missed PROIT qualifying. Did make the second ITA qualifying, however, and was really looking forward to the race as I felt I had a second or third place car. Anyway, I started last in the ProIT and was immediately passing cars. Tried to pass two going up the hill out of T1 and a 300ZX hit my LR bumper ant turned me 90 degrees to traffic. Someone, don’t know who, couldn’t miss me and hit me square on the LF wheel destroying the control arm and moving the strut tower in about an inch. Strut has about a 15 degree bend where the wheel hit it. My weekend was done, but I was fortunate enough to run the qualifiers so I got to contribute my entry money:sick: May be at the December NASA event. Maybe we can meet up there.(next time we can get phone numbers and actually find each other) Chuck

Checked Mylaps and looks like we got 4th thanks to a DQ for the first place car.

First place re-weighs 4# under weight. Tech contemplates giving him a pass. 2nd place guy pitches a hissy fit. 2nd place guy won’t STFU. 2nd place guy gets DQ’d. 1st place guy gets penalized to 3rd, putting us on the same lap as him in 4th.

Ahhh the man drama of Spec Miata…

#19

So you can get DQed just for being a loud mouthed Spec Miata driver eh.
