Anyone else suprised with Barber track time?

#7

That’s a lousy amount of time. Tons of paying racers and not a cheap price. Even combining 1 pair of DE sessions each day would yield 20 minutes per day, which is 6-7 minute for each race group. Where’s a petition to sign?

#8

Makes one want to re-think the worth of all the $$ for the 25 min races.
Better hope we do not have a caution

#9

I agree with Eric and Chuck. If I didn’t already live in Birmingham I would seriously reconsider the event. Just my personal feelings. ALLEN

Start a conversation at NASAForums. Make your voice heard. Dream up a solution that will annoy the fewest participants.

Maybe if a bunch of racers wrote that they’d be willing to pay an additional $20 at Registration so Barber could get it’s fee for over-time, that could influence how this goes. I pulled that $20 number out of my butt, so don’t quote me.

#11

There was one already started and it is now mysteriously missing…

#12

You beat me to the punch. I also saw it on the NASA forums yesterday and when I looked this morning…

#13

I didn’t see yesterday’s but I just started this one.

The NASA-SE forum has a huge problem with spam. Only the mods see it, but it’s there. Each day many hundreds of spam posts have to be deleted by the mods. It’s really awful and consumes a lot of time. Occasionally a legit thread gets deleted accidentally.

I have read that this was a big problem on that site. Probably what happened.

An idea is being discussed where Sunday Qual time would be used to race instead. So Sunday grid would be determined by Sat race finish. This would mean a 40min race on Sunday. Thoughts?

#17

Yes. I would much rather race than qualify.

#18

I agree with turning Sunday qualifying session into Race time.

#19

Me too but I don’t see why the DE’s can’t lose a session or combine a session so that we don’t have to give up qualifying. They have four sessions to our two. And the late sunday DE sessions are usually skeleton crews.

#20

We can easily move the DE sessions to earlier in the day and move the Blitz race to the end of the day.

I don’t see how that would help get the racers more time though.

Sad to say but, I am not surprised at all. In fact it is what I have come to expect from NASA events. That plus the fact that NASA is notorious for not penalizing racers is why Allen and I have refused to race with NASA. If this were not at our home track, we would not be doing this one. You pay money for the event, travel expenses and time off from work only to have races yellow or red flagged. BMW club races do not have these problems. With NASA it’s all about the money and profit. Are you listening Jim Pantas? Eric, I share your concerns. Unfortunately, Barber is a very tight track and passing is very difficult. Add to that is the fact that a certain number of racers have no or very little track time at Barber and the Spec field seems to have a certain number of yahoo cowboys who think they are better than they are and that makes a recipe for disaster. I hope I am wrong but past history is on my side.

Update. The latest draft of the schedule has a 30min race on Saturday. A vote was called for re. losing Sunday Qual and adding that time to the Sunday race. Since all of us that commented here on the idea supported it, I cast thumbs up vote for the idea.

As long as the race stays early in the day! Some have really long tows

Apparently the Ft Lauderdale airport is a known beehive of illicit activity. I tried to post something over on NASAForum and got the following error.

I like reason #1, but #3 has merit too.
