Any tricks to cleanly remove check panel harness?

#1

I’m trying to reroute the check panel harness from the roof to the center console. Does anyone know of any magic that would allow me to get the harness (with plug) under the dash w/o removing the dash? The hole near the A pillar where the harness feeds through seems too small to pass the plug.

Any ideas? I could cut and resolder all the wires… probably easier than loosening up the dash

Thanks

Dan you can do it - but it is easier with the windshield removed. You just need the feed the wire bundle through the hole. The dash gives and you can push the modular plug through. That’s what I did. I was afraid to cut the wires, so I just zip tied the bundle under the dash.

I also zip tied the bundle under my dash beside the ABS brain. I didn’t figure I needed the check lights displayed.

Maybe a dumb question but…why? Are we not allowed to remove it?

You only need to loosen up one or two bolts on the driver side. That should be enough to pull the dash out enough to feed the harness through at the base of the A-pillar.

And no, the rules don’t allow you to remove the harness.

I just removed the check panel, taped-up the plug end, and went on to another project.
