Any Spec E30s coming to Gateway next weekend?

Hey guys,
I’ve been running an E30 with the SCCA for years, but next weekend will be my first NASA event. Spec E30 is listed on the schedule, but there aren’t any registrations yet.

I was really looking forward to meeting you guys and checking out the other E30 race cars out there!

It’s not too late to register!

No I’m not going to be at gateway. I don’t like the track much to be honest and it is a midwest only event. I do mostly Great Lakes events. Next event for me will be Putnam in May which I think is a crossover event with the Midwest. I can’t think of anyone that will be going to Gateway. I’d love to see some people run in the Midwest but I think to do date I’m the only one who has ran an event in that region (Autobahn) that was not a crossover event. I assume you’re running GTS 1 or 2? Have you thought about running Spec E30 at any point? Welcome to the board and perhaps we’ll meet at Putnam if you’re there.

Thanks for the info Simon. I didn’t realize how new NASA was to the midwest region… and the numbers at Gateway kind of reflected that. I ran in GTS1 and was the only person in that class.

I had been thinking of running in Spec E30, but my car is an eta and it looks like the eta’s aren’t allowed in Spec E30, even though the 318’s are!?

I would also have to undo some of the upgrades I’ve made over the years to conform with the rules. Mostly suspension stuff. I wouldn’t mind making those changes and I wouldn’t care about you guys having 20+ hp on me (113hp at the rw), but I would like to have some sort of weight advantage…

Because of those two things I really only fit in GTS and maybe PT…

Here’s a shot from Saturday’s practice session… I went wide through the carosel and to avoid a huge mud puddle on the outside of the curbing I went through the grass. Tore off my splitter and the airdam became detached from the driver’s side. After that, I didn’t have any other incidents over the weekend.

There used to be a class for the older 318 and the eta but noone ran it so it was disbanded. The 318 that you can run is the M42 version (I wouldn’t advise doing that though). I don’t see there ever being a condition where the eta will be allowed. Mixing cars in a spec class is not a good idea imho.

Yeah I think it would be a fair amount of work to get your car to a spec condition, although not too crazy. If you ever decide to go that route and need help sourcing parts or anything just let me know and I can try and help you out. There are plenty of people on this board as well that would be willing to help. Unfortunately your car won’t be competitive in GTS1 either unless you can get it down to 2100lbs! Spec E30s have around 145-160 at the wheels with the spec exhaust. The norm probably being around the mid 150’s. There are probably a few on this board that have done the converstion from eta to i to be able to race in spec e30 you could ask around and see how difficult it was.
