Any news from VIR BMWCCA race?

What’s happening up there. How is the crusade going?

Chi, it is not too much fun racing yo-yo cars/drivers and watching your rear view mirror for fast approaching vehicles.

For me the weekend was the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I can run 2:21/2:22s all day long. I did not improve. I did catch a draft to join the under 2:20 club by a scant .006 seconds.

The low light of the weekend: a spin coming onto the main straightaway that did not hit anything.

The highlight: watching Chuck Taylor improve from 2:24s to 2:21s and giving me a great race on Sunday. Wow, he’s got it down into the 2:21 zone and he’s got 6-7 less horsepower than I do.

Remember what I said about insanity?

We’re not yet ready for the MA group. Call us mediocre.

Regards, RP

Did you spin coming out of Hog Pen? That’s a tough (and scary) corner.

I would be so happy with 2:21. Yea, 2:18 is just insane.

Yes, the spin was comming out of hogpin and it got my attention. I guess the old RA1 rain tire was just that. It will not be on track again.

Yes, we looked at Skeen’s 2:18 all weekend on the Track mate.

Gee, we do the same thing…only Mike does it faster.
I’m so confused. Ask Taylor to analyze it.

My first time on VIR-Full. The climbing esses and South Bend are definite attention-getters!

I had a nice view (but no camera footage) of Robert spinning to the inside of Hogpen during qualies. Good thing there’s a stout berm there or he might have found the armco.

In Friday’s sprint, I turned in too early at the Hogpen right-hander and went for a slide I thought would never end. I’ll have to edit down that 15 seconds and post it. Hitting the brakes did no good because I was going sideways. It’s cool when you see the 6" crack in my windshield instantly turn into a 16" crack when I hit one of the more violent ruts.

I was fortunate to find the only place on that track where I could slide 100+ yds and not hit anything more than divots.

Anyway, good times, and a definite learning experience. The VDCA/Tarheel guys put on one heck of an event.

oh I had one of those side slides exiting Hog Pen. Except, I was in the right seat of my students car and I was watching the armco next to the suites getting closer and closer on my side.

That’s when I decided I needed to get a H&N restraint device.

Good job on getting the time down in 21.

Come on Chuck, tell us some more stuff. You can type 10x faster than I can.

My first race weekend was at VIR and I did the EXACT same thing that weekend. That is a deceptively tough corner in my experience. I remember getting just a little off line and being amazed at how quickly I lost all traction on the dirty part of the pavement.

Big thumbs up for the “crack cam”. That was pretty cool!
