any consideration of a convertible?

#1

has anybody seriously looked at running a spec e30 convertible?

Inquiring minds need to know …
Would the cage stiffen up the body enough?
Can you get enough weight out?
Could you run with the convertible top up in the rain?
Does the convertible mechanism interfere with the cage routing to the rear towers?

any thoughts are welcomed.

cheers,
bruce

Pretty sure there would be no soft top when you were done.

(is that in the rules?)

I think aero drag would KILL top end.

But it would be fun.

Convertibles have two major problems: [li]If you roll in a gravel or and trap, the bars sink in and your head is suddenly the highest (or lowest) point on the car[/li][li]Significantly less protection from flying debris, so that even a minor scrape at the apex can be injurious[/li]

Could you put a fiberglass top on it like the SpecMiatas?

Hardtop is the way I am going, might get it built over the winter…

  1. You can always build the cage to give yourself some "headroom"
  2. Agree w/debris - but that "open top" feeling is awesome! See pic below:

Totally agree with you with the open top feeling:
