Another 1 from craigslist: $1k, blown head gasket

#1

If I were ready to commit with a trailer, etc.,
this would be very attractive:

“this is a 1987 325 BMW, the body is in great condition, the interior is in good condition, the engine has a blown head gasket, it has 280,000 miles it, it has a clean title, $1000 OBO”

Nice meeting a couple of you last week at Infineon.

That’s an ETA car, btw.

Eta = Slooooooow.

You want a 325i or 325is as they have the M20B25 engine. Make sure that the timing belt and water pump have been replaced recently (should be changed every 50k miles). Have a compression or leakdown test performed if possible.

Besides, 280k miles is a LOT of miles. I’d move on. Good luck!

Doesn’t mean it’s a bad car, but you will need an engine swap with this car. Probably a good thing anyways so that you know what you’ve got. Price could certainly come down some though.

Keep looking for a 325is or 325i. This one just popped up tonight on SFBay Craigslist:

1987 BMW 325is E30 - $1000 (novato)

"I have for sale a 1987 BMW 325is. It has about 230k on it, but it runs fine. I have, within the past six months, replaced the water pump, power steering pump, steering rack and rear upper shock mounts. I also upgraded the suspension with H&R lowering springs, shocks and struts. All the work was done by an experienced BMW mechanic at Casey Motorsports. The car is complete and in running order. The only real issues with the car are a couple dents, both of which were hit and runs in a parking lot, not anything serious. It’s simpley cosmetic. I need to sell the car so that I can get something a bit more practical. I commute 40 to 80 miles a day to work and school so I’d like something that is better on gas. Feel free to call with any questions."

I bought my 87 325is with a blown head gasket for $550

Good hunting!

Cool! Come by and say hi at the races/hpde. The one Scott just sent sounds like a good deal.
