Announcement: Calculating Season Points in SE

#1

SE Racers, David Cullen and I want to let you all know that for 2008, all points races will count towards the SpecE30 season championship. Put another way, there will be no drops. Section 22.0 of the CCR discusses the points methodology, and (in my opinion) paragraphs 22.1 and 22.2 contradict each other in terms of whether the 10% drop should be the default behavior or is an optional program.

This last point led to confusion last year, where some competitors were under the impression that some races could be dropped, and apparently nothing was announced one way or the other. It made for some interesting times at the end of the year determining the most correct and fair method to use to tally points.

At the end of the day, however, this determination is made on a per-region basis, and in talking with Jim Pantas, virtually every other race group in SE uses the “no-drops” scheme, and so will we, to be consistent with the rest of our region.

This season, as you know there are currently seven race weekends, I am still hopeful that an 8th race will be added after the Nationals.

This is the official SE point scheme, but it will have no bearing on Robert Patton and the Genos Garage Cup, should he elect to do that again. Mike Skeen was a well-deserved winner of the inaugural cup. Since Robert dreams up the award, he can devise any points scheme that he likes!

Sounds more than reasonable to me. But what do I know?..

Is there any way we can eliminate the triple points race/races? that seems to be the biggest  in the system. Especially with it being such a remote rack.

I suppose it’s done to boost attendance… but as some one who’s more or less in the Mid-Atlantic region but choosing to be a Southeast guy… the triple points thing is a real killer.

Edit: That’s… if I were in some kind of points race

With all that being said… I plan to do all the southeast event but Barber. :Maybe CMP could be triple points :silly:

Chuck for president!

Hey the triple points race is where I make my hay!!! Don’t knock it (but barber does suck).

Keep in mind the job of the series directors is to promote the series. That means balancing attendance with the overall appeal of the whole shebang. A few double/tripple points events are a good way to get people to come to the expensive/remote tracks so that we can continue to pay for them. The fact that a few racers reluctantly come to those events means that it’s working. B)

The trick is only using that once or twice a season. If you guys willingly came to all the remote tracks each time then we wouldn’t need extra points events.

Thanks, Chuck.

As it turned out last year we did the drop thing, but it had no effect on any of the top three positions in the southeast.Patton, Skeen, Patton

The Geno’s thing was a fewer number of races and the result was Skeen,Patton,Moses.

We’ll talk about the Geno’s Cup with all of the racers at CMP. But, just like last year, this first event is not counted for Cup points. It gives everyone a chance to test their car before we count points.

We’ll see everyone at CMP.

Regards, Robert Patton
