Any idea if the Oct event is actually going to happen? Its on the schedule but registration is still not open. I will definitely be there if it does.
Jim Pantas spent last weekend at AMP and has a lot of positive things to say about it. Apparently the paddock is getting more pavement so space won’t be as much of an issue and he thought the track was great fun. His reaction was so positive that there is talk of making AMP the IFU race. Don’t get too far along with VIR in Oct plans just yet.
That is all fine and good, but exhaust noise is the issue. I really want to run AMP this year.
I was down there with my dad and the pink panther had no problems with sound. Also, the AMP officials said that they will not pull a group of cars in for sound. They will only pull a single car in for sound if they get a reading by themselves.
That is correct! It is an awesome track and perfectly suited to SpecE30’s! The Pink Panther did successfully pass the sound meter and we were assured that they would have new garages and more pavement on the ground by October. Things are moving fast at AMP - even Discovery Parts is moving there… B)
We are working on the details of the IFU - and AMP is currently being thought of as the location for this legendary race - what a better way to learn a track than in a pack of howling E30’s?!?! B)
We took all three cars - The Pink Panther (SpecE30), the ThunderChicken (ThunderRoadster) and the Red Baron (CMC Camaro) - all three were under the sound limits.
I ran a SpecE30 at AMP with the PCA last weekend. We had trouble with going over the sound and it is a legal Spec exhaust on the car. They blacked flagged us some sessions, and not on others, couldn’t figure out how it changed. Track was fun, but not something you would want to drive all the time, but would be a blast once or twice a year. Didn’t think it was real challenging, no pucker facter.
Took my Spec E30 legal car out to AMP on Saturday and was black flagged for sound. They claimed 101db. Pulled into the Balanced Performance shop and they installed the resonator (or whatever it is called) into the tailpipe and all was great the rest of the day. They will be supplying these for free during the NASA weekend, so everyone should be covered.
BTW, it was a blast to drive!!!
