Alternator inturupt for kill switch

#1

Im not the best at electrical, but know that when I turn the kill switch the car keeps running because the alternator is powering the car. What is the easiest way to stop the current the alternator produces so that the car stops when the switch is turned?

This was covered in detail in threads over the last couple yrs. A couple minutes should turn them up. There’s two cables from the battery that have to be interrupted so you need a 2 pole switch. Interrupt both of those lines and the car will stop.

Ranger is right. A search will turn up some threads about installing the kill switch. If you’re an idiot like me it will still not be entirely clear on what wire goes where. Basically, as Ranger indicated, there are two wires coming from the positive battery terminal…you will basically be installing the switch in between the battery and the junction block on the front pass side under the hood. I have a 4 pole switch. The main battery connection will connect on one side and a main from the others side connecting back up to the junction block. The smaller alternator wire will connect to one of the side terminal (and on the 4 pole) the resisitor is connected to the other terminal on that same side to any ground. Lastly, a wire of similiar gauge as the alternator wire gets connected to the other side terminal and connects back up to the junction block.

Basically, all you are doing is installing the switch in the middle of the connection from the battery to the junction block and then adding the resistor. So, 2 wires in (Batt and Alt), 2 wires out (Batt and Alt). The switch is simply an on/off contact switch that interrupts the circuit when switch to off. It ended up being very simple (once I figured it out).
Hope this helps and Good luck!

Isolate the alternator wire, take the large red off the back of the alt, make a new similar gauge wire with crimp on loops at both ends, connect it to the small gauge wire that runs from the battery, I use one of the studs on the factory junction on the passenger side of the firewall. Be sure to tape up the end of the wire removed form the alt, it may still be hot.

Thanks I found the thread and a picture, I had the DME power connected at the wrong place on the forward block, moved that to the right location and it works!

Thanks again.
