Just need a pair of rear Bilsteins, dump the passenger seat, start a log book, sort out some weight issues and she is ready.

I have all my safety gear. Hope to have my comp license soon!!

We need to get more RM region interest!!

Looks great!@

My Mother in law is visiting from Denver (we moved to Cal from there 5 years ago), and brought me the Post or RMN that has a cool article on the track development scene for Colorado. Sounds like some good things are coming finally to the RM region! Couple of tracks on the plains as well as maybe something at, was it PPIR?

I know the feeling…so close you can almost taste it. My cage is finally all but done, now it’s just a matter of painting my hideous car and getting the log book and license.

Yea, the local 944spec guys are gonna be fun to play with, but can’t wait to get some bigger car fields with the bricks.

How do the E30s compare with 944s on the track? I’d imagine pretty close P/W, brakes, but bigger tire. E30s probably have more torque with the 2 extra cylinders.

The 944’s are surprisingly slow. I am in no way knocking the cars… I just automatically thought Porsche=fast. I also though they ahd sixes in them as well. There may be a higher number of rookie drivers in my area and that may add to the perception. Check out www.mylaps.com to see where they are with respect to other classes.

I have had both E30 and 944 track cars. The 2.5 litre 2 valve 944 have 147 crank HP and weigh in at about 2800 lbs. I don’t remember the torque number but I think it is in the same ball park with the 325i. So, with the 168 hp and slightly less weight the E30 is faster down the straights. Even with poorer aerodynamics. The advantages the 944 has over the E30 is better aero as noted above, better weight distribution, and better brakes. Therefore, the 944 is easier to drive on the limit. The 944S 2.5 litre 4 valve was rated at 188 hp but was sadly was insignificantly faster than a 2 valve car. The 1989 2.7 litre 2 valve car was a tick faster and the 3.0 944S2 on the other hand is a vastly superior car. This is whay occasionally you will see a quick 944. Some teams transplanted 3.0 motors in older chassis and they were pretty quick.

Ironically, back in the Firestone Firehawk Endurance Cahmpionship days the 325is was in the S (sports) class while the 944 (2 valve) was in GS (Grand Sports). I drove a few 944s in GS back then and it really sucked to be at the back of the GS pack and slower than many Sports and even some Touring cars.
