ABS LOCKED UP ON FRONT WHEELS!!!!!!!

#1

Well dayum!!!

Drove the car last nite, everything seemed ok.

Rebled the brakes this a.m.

Just went to pull the car out of the garage to go get alignment. I CAN’T GET IT OUT OF THE GARAGE!!!

The ABS system seems to have the calipers locked up.

Tried pulling the #6 fuse - no go.

Tried unhooking the ABS computer - no go.

Tried pulling the relay that feeds into the ABS computer - no go.

A. How do you disable the ABS?

B. How do I fix this hydraulic lock up in the ABS system?

Thanks,

I didn’t know it was possible for the abs to lock the lines. Does your pedal/master move normally. Have you tried cracking the bleeders to let the pressure out and then push the brakes to see if the problem repeats itself.

Try the fluid reservoir cap, I had one not vent and it caused a vacuum and I had no peddle you may have the opposite!

Hehe, I get the DMF of the day award. I put a set of my Miata wheels with some older track tires on the car. The offset works fine on the rears. Not too good on the front. They were interfering with calipers.

true miata wheels also have too small a centerbore (54mm vs 57.1mm)

The bore on the wheels in question fit cleanly.

Read the article in Grassroots Motorsports about their Spec E30 build. Their ABS system was locking the rears when it got hot. They removed the line from the ABS pump to the rear brakes and it released. They replaced the ABS pump, and the master cylinder for good measure, and reported the problem fixed.

Obviously not the problem here, but it apparently can happen.
