88 and 87 aluminum bumpers

I have read that 88 was a “halfbreed” year between the aluminum and plastic bumpers. Does anyone know if 88 model bumpers bolt right up to an 87 model car (assuming the frame has been straightened)?

88 will bolt on 87 but not the other way. The only bumper available from bmw is the 88
