But wasn’t the situation the same (i.e. same bad part being used over and over, causing the failure of another part)?

Don’t remember the exact sequence (Chuck or Robert could fill in the gory details) but it went something like;
Replace clutch/pressure plate - couple of times. Some stock. Some aftermarket stronger plates.
Replace clutch/transmission - maybe couple of times.
Replace the whole darn drive train - Engine, clutch, transmission, shaft. It was a transplant from a known good working car.
I think that’s where it stands. The car has seen maybe 4-5 track days since?
