5 Point and 6 Point Harness Mounting Locations

#1

Okay, I am attempting to install a 5 point and a 6 point harness soon. I got the seats mounted today and started looking at locations for the harness mounts. I got the harnesses used with no instructions. The best instructions I have found are here:

http://www.schroth.com/installation-instructions/en/index.html

This states that the submarining strap on the 5 point mounts in front of the slot in the seat while mounting behind the slot in the seat for a 6 point with 4" between mounting spots for the 2 straps. I am planning on mounting the lap belts as far in bound as I can and just behind the slot in the seat for the lap belt. If anyone has any recommendations or good pictures of proper mounting locations, please let me know.

I currently have a Corbeau FX1 mounted on their double lock sliding bracket. I purchased the G-Force mounting eyelets with the big thick washer for all the chassis mounting locations. Does the big washer go on the inside or the outside of the car? I will probably eventually switch to a fixed mount bracket when I am the only one driving it along with getting the mounting points reinforced, but I am still awhile away from racing, and will have instructors riding and possibly driving the car and the flexibility of this setup is great. So any help is appreciated before I make a mistake.

you will be good if you follow the angle requirements on page 12 of the schroth guide. The latest thinking that I’ve heard is that the submarine strap mount points should be further rearward.

A big washer would always go on the side where it will be pulled against the floor (outside), vs being pulled away from the floor (inside)

Here’s a photo I took during our rebuild of the car of the driver seat slider and mounting bolts - maybe it will help. The bolts for the sub straps are the two you see just under the rear crossbar we used for mounting the slider. The lap belts mount to the two bolts furthest to the right. We used the big-ass 4 x4 metal plates from GForce under each bolt.
Happy building!

Thanks for the photo. That looks like about where I was going to place the lap belt mounts, but much further back then I was going to do the submarine ones. I had looked through all your build pics and they gave me the best idea of where to mount them.

If your seat is as low as it should be, you will need to have the sub belt mounting behind the seat bottom. CB

Is it possible to have the sub belts mounted too far back? If it isn’t then I will mount them about where they are in Natalie’s image?

Nat’s solution is fine.

I originally had my Profi II belts mounted back where Natalie’s are in the pic, but I didn’t like the fact that the belts were extended almost as far as they could go (which would allow excessive stretching) or that the adjusters were down near the seat pass through - which is listed as a no-no in the Schroth guide, and it made it nearly impossible to adjust those belts.

After a phone call to Schroth to discuss the different locations, I moved them up under the middle of the seat, just behind the pass through spaced about 5" apart. They’re probably closer to a 30 degree angle than the 20 degree suggest by Schroth, but if they were any further forward the seat wouldn’t clear them.

I think the bolts for the lap belts are in a perfect spot in the pic above.

I used these (included with the Schroth belts) on the underside of the car: http://www.discoveryparts.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=harness_schroth_ca&pid=666

My original plan was to mount them a couple inches behind the pass through and around 4" apart. Since the seat is on sliders I was gonna set it all the way back and make my marks. I’m surprised that the Schroth harnesses came with those plates and all that hardware. I guess that is why they cost what they cost. I will consider getting those plates, but I don’t know why Discovery has them listed at $10 when the Schroth site says $4.50. They also don’t list the dimensions on the plates. How big are they?

Sounds like a good plan to me.

My belts came with eye bolts. Full parts list here: (Profi II-6 HANS) - http://www.hmsmotorsport.com/store/schroth-competition/profi/profi-II

Yep I researched it myself and updated my post.

I bought the Schroth Profi as soon as the 2010 belts came out. Instead of four eyebolts and backing plates, it only came with two. Was irksome. It’s not a metric thread either.

It says:

2 SG23 7/16" Eyebolts (Snap-in versions come with 4)

Did you get the snap-in version? Anyways I am only out $68 for a pair of harnesses and $50 in hardware for both so far, so I am happy. Hopefully you guys can inspect my install and criticize at Road Atlanta in August.

my snap-in version came with 4. very easy to install. worth the extra $$ for scroth imo. the h&nr restraint compatible belt that goes from 2" to 3" is nice too, works great on the defender.

Glad the photo(s) have been a help
My Schroth belts didn’t come with any hardware (that I can remember - this was mid '07). That’s how we ended up with the G-Force mounting hardware - we used F & G in the attached image. Worked like a charm.

Yes.

You got them cheap. Nice.
