4 door window net?

#1

Can those with 4 doors let me know what window nets and mounting set-ups you are using? I have read that all of the standard nets are too big for the smaller 4 door window opening.

thanks for your help.

Patton is off racing at CMP this weekend (the king of the 4-doors) so he can weigh in later, but I am pretty sure he uses the same type of nets as anyone else. The key is really the dimensions of your cage, not the placement of the B-pillar.

What story did you hear about nets and 4-doors? That is a new one to me.

The top of the door is tight on a standard window net…but there are window nets out there that work…you can find one…

So, no thoughts/experiences on this?

I have seen that Schroth makes 2 sized nets 20x(something) and then a 16x16 that they state is for a sedan. These are pretty expensive so I would prefer to know if I can use one of the cheaper models and if there are mounting issues with doing this.

I run a 4dr and I haven’t had time to measure my window net for you but I can tell you my cage builder just included it as part of my cage-building fee and he didn’t have any fitment problems or complications from the fact that it was a 4dr. If i remember, I’ll measure mine and get back to you. Before the cage went in, I was really nervous about how the cage would fit the 4dr chassis, but it turns out that it fits in a perfectly natural way… you see it and you go "oh, that makes sense."

Great. Thanks.

My car is at the cage builder as we speak so if you have any specific likes dislikes about your cage let me know. Generally speaking I think the cage will be very similar to a coupe cage.

Is BJ doing the cage? Robinson? Rick Maxon? Estimated time of racing? Give us an update and a call if you need help. Regards, Robert Patton 770-886-2500

Thanks Robert. The car is at J3 Racing in Gainsville. BJ had a big project and did not have time for a few months. Not sure about completion date, but I am pushing for end of next week as I still have a lot of ‘small’ stuff to do. Given that most things take me twice as long as they take most other folks I will be squeeking by to get ready for RA. I just registered for Road Atlanta today, so at least I have a date to shoot for.

i have a 4 door and got the net from winecountrymotorsports in sonoma CA.
I did have to lengthen the bottom bar due to the nascar door bars.
I will take some pics and send later.

here is the pic i promised

#15

maybe it’s the angle of the picture, but how do you release that net from the outside?
cheers,
bruce

#16

it has the GM version belt release at the top left corner.
It is the angle that doesn’t really show it.

#17

Could you please take more detailed pics. I just can’t figure it out how to attach it (dumb ass). I got the NASCAR style big trapezoid net that covers the entire window. I probably need something smaller.
BTW, you can get very good deals from Summit Racing.

#18

yeah, you don’t want to cover your line of sight to your side mirror

Vic - my car is still in prep, but here is how my 4-door window net is set up. IO Port top mount, g-force mesh net, stainless wire support strap, 1 1/2 inch bar clamp at the rear with a welded-on threaded rod to mount rear of lower bar.

I tried to use the pipe clamp as illustrated above, but it won’t work for me. Take a look at this photo and see what I’m dealing with, and recommend a solution. Please.

I thought about looping steel cable around the cage and attaching it to the metal strip, but am unsure as to the legality of it passing tech.
