24hrs of Lemons stories

Where’s the stories?

I saw the video of Team Salazar’s E30 getting crushed. Anyone have contact info for them? I’d like that finned diff cover.

#2

The diff cover is probably still at CMP.

I should have some some good info, pics, vids, writeup etc. in a day or two.

Man, that video gave me nightmares. :silly:

Oh, the humanity!..

#4

We left the whole car there. Might have been able to pull the entire diff… but whatever, $500 car!

#5

Is that what happens if one shows up at a Spec E30 race without the spec exhaust?

Why were you picked for the people’s curse?

500 dollar car ok, but the 1000+ roll cage, and other safety items. most of the people’s curse cars are blatantly cheating, but why you?

Safety items (cage, etc.) aren’t included in the $500 budget. They were probably chosen because people saw it as an actual racecar…

  1. People thought we were cheating with a high dollar car.

We ran Vic’s E30 that was totaled at Hyperfest 2007. We kept the cage and safety equipment. The frame was pulled straight-ish with a pickup truck, and we bolted the stock suspension back on. So we had a 100% stock 325i with a cage, bent frame, and NASA race stickers. Because it still LOOKED like a racecar (sorta), they accused us of cheating and docked us 20 laps to start.

  1. The other drivers thought we were too aggressive.

I couldn’t believe my ears, but we spoke to a team that thought that Vic had been disqualified for “driving too fast”.

  1. The chicane.

This is probably the thing that pissed people off the most. The LeMons officials placed a chicane halfway down the front straight to slow people down. In the first few laps, apparently forgetting that this was a race, almost every car lined up SINGLE FILE before the chicane. Now when I say single file before the chicane, I don’t mean single file going through the chicane, I mean single file on the straight (which can probably fit four cars wide) before the chicane. It looked like a toll booth. We used this to our advantage and just drove to the front of the line. After about 10-15 minutes of us jumping to the front of the line, the rest of the field started to wise up. After about an hour, every car either raced to the chicane or at least blocked other trying to pass (you know, like a race).
