I get all types of requests for people who want to take the Competition Schools. The most common is "I can turn a 1:NN.000 @ " - truth is I don’t give a rat’s butt how fast you are, we simply care that you know how to handle traffic and are not a danger to anyone else. Hence the idea that we are looking for experience in our advanced groups from applicants.
The truly deciding factor is the Comp School instructors - I literally ask each one “Would you race next to this person?” - and if they hesitate in the least, then we suggest they get more track time.
Watch the IFU videos, you’ll see that we emphasize clean racing within millimeters of each other. That is what makes it the most fun. I have driven an AIX car so far ahead of the pack that I felt lonely and wondered where everyone went and I have driven a SpecE30 mid-pack with so much action I couldn’t blink because I would end up becoming entangled in a mess - the latter is much more fun!
My decision to let someone into the Comp School is solely based on “verifiable” experience, the last thing we need is a bad reputation for letting someone race who is clearly in over their head…
