I’ll be at all of the Putnam and Mid-O events to include Nationals…

#3

I’ll be at Nationals as well. I am registered for April M-O, but have to pass comp school.

#4

Put me down for the July and August Mid-O events plus hopefully Nationals. Putnam is a possible for me depending on how things go at the April Race.

I also need to pass the April BMWCCA Race School.

#5

John Ackerman is not going to make it to Mid-O in April. He has a conflicting schedule.

I wouldn’t mind VIR in October??

Michael

#6

I have several track buddies near VIR and they are insistent that I come down and do a race there this year. You know VIR in October would be a nice trip.

#7

I’m in for the Great Lakes migration to VIR. Like I said it’s my home track. I lived in that area for a while so I have friends in the area that will let me stay with them making my life a lot easier.

There is a one day event at Mid-O on 16 May with “3 Balls Racing”. I’m planning to head straight from Putnam Park to Mid-O. Who’s with me? http://www.3ballsracing.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=38&Itemid=44

I’m quite curious how they picked the name…

1010ths has several events at Putnam Park to include 2-3 April which I plan to attend. They also have one event on the Thursday prior to the NASA event in August. I doubt I make this one.

A quick update on my plans for the April Race. A while back I bought an E36 donor that I was going to cage and race SE36. Obviously my plans have changed and I am now running SE30. That said, I needed to get the E36 to a state where I could get it out of the garage and up for sale. A cooling system overhaul later, and the car will be up for sale later today or early tomorrow (price will be a steal I might add). Nonetheless, the car is out of the garage and the SE30 is in. It needs some work. I have 2 agendas here. 1. get the car ready for the BMWCCA race school first. 2. then get the car fully race ready. I leave for Sweden for 2 weeks starting the 21st and will be back on the 31st so that basically gives me 2 full weekends plus next week to work on it. Then after the CRS I have the Monday-Thursday to finishi prepping for the race. I have no doubt that it will be ready for the CRS but I am not positive about NASA race the next weekend.

To get the car ready for the CRS it needs:

  • to be fully gone through (brakes, fluids, etc)
  • rear brake line (hard line from the Master Cyl)
  • Spec E30 exhaust hung back on it
  • front spoiler hung

To get the car ready for the NASA race:

  • Timing Belt replaced (Ihave it already)
  • AFFF installed (I have it already)
  • AMB Transponder mounted (I have it already)
  • Electrical Cut off switch installed
  • all nets replaced
  • a new seat belt harness meeting specs
  • front tow strap installed
  • Toyo RA-1s purchased and mounted
  • car painted? and proper decals applied
  • annual tech and logbook

I envision alot of late nights between here and there but I have every intention of making the April CRS and NASA race fwiw.
Thanks for reading my rant.

Jamie good luck, honestly I’ll be very impressed if you make April.

Thanks bro. I think the most time consuming thing will be the timing belt. The car runs fine but the PO suggested that I replace it since it had not been changed in quite some time. Depending on timing, I might run the CRS and the first race with it and then there is a big time gap until the next race where I can change it. I think if I do that I have a realistic chance to make the NASA race. What the hell…these engines aren’t that expensive

Quick update on my status:

To get the car ready for the CRS it needs:

  • to be fully gone through (brakes, fluids, etc):
Brake are in good shape for CRS. Normal maintenance needed still. Bleed, regrease sliders, etc. Oil and filter changed.
  • rear brake line (hard line from the Master Cyl)
Brake line replaced. Even replaced a section of both fuel lines
  • Spec E30 exhaust hung back on it
Spec E30 exhaust hung are some blood, sweat and tears
  • front spoiler hung
    Front Spoiler hung

To get the car ready for the NASA race:

  • Timing Belt replaced (Ihave it already)
Timing Belt replaced as well as cap, rotor, water pump, thermostat and belt. Coolant flushed. Valves adjusted!
  • AFFF installed (I have it already)
  • AMB Transponder mounted (I have it already)
    AMB mounted and working
  • Electrical Cut off switch installed
  • all nets replaced
Nets ordered and on their way
  • a new seat belt harness meeting specs
FIA harness ordered and on the way
  • front tow strap installed
    Front Tow strap installed
  • Toyo RA-1s purchased and mounted
RA-1s purchased and on their way- car painted? and proper decals applied
  • annual tech and logbook

What do you guys think?

I think you’ve got this! I still have to put my motor back together and get it in the car. Hopefully that will happen over the weekend. Then dyno time, and getting the suspension set up. Hopefully everyone ships your parts in a timely manor. When I’m in a hurry everything seems to be on backorder, or for some reason takes a week to ship… I’m looking forward to having a big field at Mid Ohio! Goodluck getting everything together.

I think so too! Just some “finishing touches” and I think I’m golden. I hope the car holds up ok. One thing I can tell that is going to be a major headache is the electrical system. This car has splices and new grounds all over the place. I’ll be sure to take my Voltmeter to every race because I am sure at some point it will bite me.

I just tracked the parts and everything arrives today or tomorrow so fingerscrossed it can be mechanically done this weekend. Denny has graciously offered to come over this weekend and help out so I am confident it will get finished. Then it’s time to paint or get it painted…(See Body thread I just started).

Good luck getting your engine back together. What were you getting done to it? I agree, the field at Mid-O should be pretty big. I don’t have high expectations since I have never owned/driven an E30 and the first track time that I will see in this car is the CRS the weekend before. I ran 1:46/7’s in my old E36 so I know the track but I also new that car very well. Should be interesting to say the least.

#15

Glad to hear you’ll be making it! Good luck with the final preparations! Would you believe that my To Do list is still longer than yours?

#16

Well you front runners are all fine tuning making perfect upgrades. Us bottom dwellars are just hoping to get on track and be competitive on the CHEAP! :stuck_out_tongue:

#17

The motor is totally rebuilt. It originally had 250k miles on it and apparently a bunch of bent valves and asll. Should be much stonger this season

Are there any rental opportunities in this Chicago/Wisconsin/North Western Indiana area?

I’d love to race at GingerMan or Autobahn or Blackhawk again sometime on a visit “home”.

Kieran

I will hopefully be ready in May. I just took a new job and may be moving soon, so I have no idea how much time I will have this year.

Car should be back from cage work at the beginning of April, and I figure another month to get everything situated.

Planning on only 2 race weekends this year. Just enough to get nationals ready.

No Spec E30 Rentals that I know of locally.
