2009 25 Hours of Thunderhill

#1

Hey Everyone,

Did you hear that Donny ran all 25 hours of Thunderhill solo!
I think he finished 35th or so overall and I think 11th or so in class. I am still waiting for the final results. Our Bimmerworld #31 E0 E36 M3 dropped out after about 12 hours due to differential failure and with euro diff and misc differences we could not swap it out to get going again. Great fun to be involved in my second 25 hour. Looking forward to driving next year.

From what I hear, Steve Gorriaran (SCCA National Champion) also ran SOLO an SM in E2 and won the class. Un-frickin-believable.

3 hours at CMP last month had me wrecked!

Tough luck on the car Scott. At least you got to sleep well?

Nice job Donny! That’s borderline crazy. Here’s some more info http://thegarageblog.com/garage/team-brimstone-dynasty-soldiers-on-at-nasa-25/

It was a pretty tall climb for Donny. He told me he wasn’t wearing diapers, but I will keep that rumor going. He showed me his “backup” gear for the race, and it was a pile of extra oil and a few sundries. He “run” what he “brung” on that E30, and it stayed on. I heard he was near delirious when he got of the car for the finish. It was good to see old red on the road, I drove it last year in the 25 and will attest to how solid it runs.

I ran this year in a front wheel drive, first ever for me racing one. Team Midnight Performance Acura Integra for E2. We had a great pit crew and good lineup. Qualified 3rd by a small margin and didn’t have to drive the car as hard to get it compared to the other two miatas. We finished with a good hard run and a solid performance. However we lost a tranny, and the deficit in replacing it in 30 or so minutes was not overcome, along with a few other smaller mechanical issues. However it was a blast as the 25 always is, and I got a lot of track time.

PS - Gorriaran got out of the Miata and drove his rental car 110 miles to the airport to catch a red-eye back to the East Coast. That is one tough (mentally incompetent?) sumbitch.

Congrats to Donny on an amazing achievement.

Congratulations Donny.
I saw both competitors after the race. They were beat but still up and going.

This was also an instance of Tech helping out competitors. Steve did not have a certified Hans so I gave him mine so he could compete.
