Thinking about buying a custom halo seat

[quote=“Ranger” post=55940]Bought a new Lincoln Weld Pak 180 for $580 shipped. Home Depot and Lowes had it for $669 + tax, so I figure I got a decent deal.

Welder is here. Got a stand from HF.

I am building a Spec30 for myself, but I own a SpecMiata based business. We have just finished a carbon fiber seat with integrated head halo and leg supports that weighs 7 lbs.

The seat was designed with the help of an orthopedic surgeon and has no pressure points. The mounts are a 2 piece mount that allows the seat to get all the way to the floor which may not be as important for and E30 as it is in a SM. Making the mounts work in an E30 require only modifying the bottom portion of the mount. Most seats on the market are not contoured and have a bunch of flat straight pieces that make up the build. With this seat, the entire seat is contoured to the human body so it is extremely safe and comfortable.

We are in final stages of SFI testing and I should have pictures of the seat mounted in my Spec30 soon, but I thought I would throw it out there since it seems relevant to the topic. Sorry if I have violated any advertising policies. Delete/edit as necessary. With a quick google search you can find more detailed descriptions and pictures.

Cool carbon fiber seat!! Looks very expensive! How much? All of this talk of halo style seats makes me wonder if I’m taking unnecessary risk riding in my Recaro sans halo. I’m reluctant to replace until the FIA certification expires…

Wow, that’s a hellacious seat. Sounds really expensive tho.

Re. seat on the floor. Because I was fabbing the mounts I was free to drop the seat as low as I wanted. My old Sparco seat had been pretty low, at the back of the seat using the bottom bolt in the Sparco seat mounts, and one up in front.

I put a sight line on my windshield and on the wall of the garage before removing the Sparco seat. That gave me a standard to judge experimental seat up/down positions against. Eventually I settled on dropping the seat only 1/2". Lower than that and it seemed my sight line started getting obstructed by the hood. The rear of the seat ended up 1" and the front ~3.5". I’m 6’ tall and near as I can tell have a torso that is a tad short.

Thanks for the encouraging video before heading to Mid Ohio this afternoon. Maybe I will consider a new seat in the near future.

That’s funny even if at my expense!
