I’ve run the ProForm on a Stang. Easy to hook up and setup your shift/RPM point. They are pretty nice and inexpensive. Got a new one off ebay for under $50 shipped a couple of years back.

The autometer "pills" thing is a scam. I got a Autometer shift light used last year for my Saleen. Didn’t feel like buying the pill packs at like $20. So I soldered in a pot and now am able to adjust the shiftpoint at any RPM I want. I don’t remember off the top of my head the range, but it a easy mod you can google.

Doug, nope - it is really easy. You can be getting GPS signal for speed, lap times, in literally just a few minutes. It will take longer to mount than configure.

I did exactly the same setup as Ken above for the display.

I mounted the brain to plate inside a piece of tupperware in the battery tray location, which made running wires easy and keeps it dry, secure and out of the way.

As far as config, I connected it to a wire on the ECU for the tach signal and you can set the "step" values for the progressive shift lights and the final shift point to suit your needs. I have mine 200 RPM below the rev limiter and I rarely bounce off the limiter anymore. The only odd thing was that it has a setting for the # of cylinders but I had to set it to 2 instead of 6, but it is very accurate.

Yeah, they are pretty pricey but a good training tool if utilized to its full potential. They can be found on ebay at a pretty decent discount. Look here:

The tach is a VDO Digital X-Treme #333-936 and the shift light (on the column, in front of the slushbox warning light) is an LED VDO Mega-Lite. Total spent was about $275, via eBay.

Another G2X user here. Dan, that is another $275 in addition to your Traqmate right? G2X is a good value when you add it all up. Has the tach and shift lights.

I just installed mine like this. Works great!! I have noticed that the tach reads low on the G2X. Anyone else see this? I get my signal from the small black wire going to the ECU. It red lines at 6350 on the G2X.

Ideas??

Becuse of the way it works, I’d be more inclined to believe the G2X display than the analog OE tach. But then independent verification of engine rpm would quickly tell which is more accurate.

I verified mine off of an external tach, found it to be very accurate. How far off is your reading?

How are the rest of you G2X guys doing with the software? I am just now getting into it, looking at segment times, optimal lap times, etc. The software is nice - takes a little getting used to/set up but then is easy. There is a good discussion board for the G2X too, and now Trackvision has software to match up your video with lap times. I am doing an HPDE track day on the 20th and may try and do this.

I have mapped a few sessions at VIR and segment analysis but I don’t really know what I am doing. It would be helpful to have another drivers data to compare my segment time to. But then I doubt anyone really wants to help me be competitive in races.

The problem is the G2X says I hit the rev limit at 6350 RPM. I did see in the manual where you can calibrate it in setup 2 (while in motion). Maybe I just need to do this.

Hi Michael, That is a configuable setting in Setup 1 also, that’s where I set mine. The shift light builds in 4 segments IIRC - you can set the top/full light as high or low as you want as well as the step value increments - i.e. 200 RPM steps up to full shift light.

I understand the configuration of the lights. I had the system on my ITS car and the shift lights were programed right and they never came on. I did the same thing to the SPec E30 and no work. What I am saying is that when I take the car to redline with the throttle the G2X only shows 6350. The stock tack shows 6500. I think it needs calibrated. If you progam the G2X for 6500 redline and the thing never sees it it will not let the shift lights come on.

What I did was to check the G2X PRM reading when I hit the rev limiter then set the shift light to come on about 100 RPM below that. The actual engine RPM’s and the G2X reading might not be the same but the shift light comes on at the right time which is what is really important.

Another thing you can do (which you might already know) is to set the shift lights at different RPM’s for each gear depending on the optimal shift point.
