Savannah Sizzler Results & Video Thread

David, I’ll log onto the video, but without having seen it, it looked like you were the receipent of the classic punt. Sorry that it happened, glad there was no damage to anyone.

RP

Upon further review: I’ll need to review the ole CCRs… While you might have turned down on the roadster (or did he push out?), if I recall correctly, it is still his responsibility to avoid the incedent.

However, you’re okay with it and t roadster is okay, then I’ll subscribe to the adage, “mind your own business.”

I thought there was a rule somewhere that said TRs and Legend cars can use an outside car as a crutch to get around cornders. Everyone of them I’ve ever known does it. I’ve never been passed in a corner by them without them leaning on me on the way through.

David, IMHO definitely a protestable incident. It is up to the overtaking driver to initiate and complete a safe pass: he did not. He put himself out of position vs. the car behind him and tried to block but could not. Very bad move on his part. Chuck
I’m fine with what happened on Sunday. It does suck for me but it didnt change my life, so its just one of those things that happen in racing.
Those guys were fighting for position just like we were. I do have an opinion on what exactly happened, but I’d like to hear the groups thought before I lead in any direction. I dont personally care about faulting one person or another, but for the sake of the roadster driver I believe wasnt at “fault” what do you think… https://vimeo.com/40484811 The video is password protected with “iwantaroadster”
Here is the video of the last lap mayhem in turn 2. http://vimeo.com/40629636

My take on the event is the second place roadster was ultimately responsible. While the leader washed out a little. It was the second place roadster that hit the leader pushing him into Walsh. David gave them plenty of room to come through clean.

I think Kelly nailed it in his assessment of the spin.
Again, glad all is well with the cars and drivers involved.

RP

On a different note, I still can’t get past thinking about the 5 car race that we had for the full 45-minute session. Great racing with Childress, Walsh, Moses and Taylor. Thanks for the memory.

Hey, Laura Parkhurst—great race Saturday as you came from last (no lap time in qualifing-we left the transponder on the other car) to 6th.

#26

Disagree…all on green car. The white car had made an inside move on the green with Walsh giving both enough room to get through. The green came down on the white car, which was totally along side and two wheels off trying to avoid contact, and caused the contact. Chuck

Only watched the video a few times, but have to agree with this. The white car was at least to the lead car’s door, entitling him to racing room. That means he should expect 3/4 car width. Hard to tell, but looks like he was 2-off, which is what he should be prepared to do. Lead car needs to give him that room.

Got my Sunday video up if anyone wants to see it. At least everyone will get to see their car when they put me a second lap down:

I’m in agreement with what Chuck sees. What happened was the leader went to wide and behind me which left an open door for P2 to set a pic and come on through except P1 didnt agree.
The scenario was exactly the same as this pass from earlier in the same race. https://secure.vimeo.com/40694228
The difference is that Kelly is either more experienced, more patient,or both. I cant say that I wouldnt have made the same choice, in fact, ask DeVinny about that, I hear he likes donuts.:woohoo:

On a different note, I later had the opportunity to swap cars with a roadster driver for a DE session and man was it fun!
He commented on the E30s brakes and balance and I absolutely loved the Roadsters sound, shift,RPM,and speed. It was actually less twitchy than I expected as well. Fun stuff

Saturday video is up. I am still uploading Sunday’s - should be ready by morning.

This was my first ever race at Roebling. As we already know, I had a little contact with Ranger in T1, nothing major. Unfortunately, he seemed to be the one with all the damage. After a spin, I managed to get caught back up (somewhat) and come in 12th.

I’d also appreciate people’s feedback. Sunday I managed to qualify 1 1/2 secs faster, but as you’ll see (again), it was, how shall we say, adventerous!

Overall, it was a great time, I learned a lot and really enjoyed getting to meet everyone. Thanks for making so welcomed up there!

OK, Sunday is up: http://youtu.be/M52SgiM1rxM

Was off to a good start, then shift knob came off. Of course it fell on the drivers side and went under my feet and pedals heading into T1 . Lap times were faster than Saturday, but between the first spin and traffic, it was tough getting back up there.

As before, would love the feedback.

I bought a Jaffster with set screws after the standing start and loss of my shift knob at Roebling last year.

The only feedback I can provide is that it was nice to see your GPS MPH. I checked my data, and I only hit 115.1 mph before braking into Turn 1 this weekend. :frowning:
As before, would love the feedback.
Both feet in. If you hadn’t been 2nd to last, that Turn 2 tank slapper could have been ugly.

Edit: The video I uploaded may be corrupted, does anyone else have problems with it cutting out around 5 minutes to go.
Yes.
Thought so… I’ll have to reload it once Vimeo gives me space (next week). In the meantime, here is Saturday’s race. Qualified well, but lost some ground at the start. Working through traffic after the double yellow restart was a lot of fun.

Took a while, but here is Sunday’s race re-posted:

Savannah looks simple, but to me, is a weird track to learn. Next time you come, lets work it out for you to bring the car to my shop first. I’ll set it up for you and we can talk about the track turn by turn. If there is a Friday test day, maybe we can take advantage of that too.

Good Luck this year!

Thanks David, I appreciate the offer! My next Se event will either be RA in August or December. I’m leaning toward the December event as I hear it’s a better turnout. I’ll be sure to give you a heads up.

Next time we at a track together, show me your Jaffster knob pls.

#39

The nice thing about the Jaffster knob is it’s length, being quite tall. However the set screws can’t be trusted to keep the knob secure. I’ve had to tighten mine several times over the last couple of years.
