Thanks for the “pinch”…
Here is the rest of the session…
NASA-SE::Pit Bull Brawl, May 19-20, CMP
Fred has been driving around with a movable rear subframe for a while…see he finished 5th both days, lets hear about it Fred, how was it?
Al
Well, I have been trying to edit the video down so that only the first 5 minutes are here as is the last 5. I have not been able to do it and will continue to work on learning how these MP4 files work. For now, here is the entire race. Feel free to watch the whole thing or fast forward to about the 25:00 to see it get tasty.

Had a blast…on Saturday at least.
My sad, lame and yet uplifting story is as follows:
Friday 1.15pm - begin replacement of lower control arms, shocks and spring package, sway bar links and engine
mounts.
6.45pm - rear sway bar links and engine mounts left to be done. noted. no further action.
6.55pm - start the car for the first time in four months. check fluid levels. leave it running
(sputtering) while I go pack my bags.
7.05pm - turn car off, load tools helmet track tires and toiletries into car and have a pre roadtrip
dinner with the wife.
8.20pm - finally leave out for Kershaw with clan (they are Flagging) in tow. The car is bucking
backfiring and making funny grinding noises. Slow acceleration and a tendency to die at high
speed puts us further behind. The original plan was to leave at 7pm and be in Kershaw by
11.30. We then make a detour through Milledgeville to pick up another Flagger.
11.30pm- leaving Millidgeville the van signals it is overheating. Now we will simply add coolant as
we go along.
3.45am - Camden/Lugoff Exit. E30’s left front tireloses two lug bolts (snapped off) and we discover
all bolts are loose.
5.10am - arrive at CMP. leave the car there and drive on to the hotel, check in, grab some sleep.
6.15am - Inform Jim and Julie of my new status - i am now available to worr.
7.15am - Jim directs me to Will the Master who gives my car the once over, solves the loose bolts
problem but we agree the car is not trackable. Jim proposes I drive his Camaro. I
eventually yield to that pressure.
P.S Drove the car home Sunday night doing on average 80mph. Smooth. Thanks Will, Jim, Julie and Robert Patton.
Man that sucks Dex. I’m doing Sebring on June 23rd if you are still interested in giving that track a shot.

Al is correct. My old subframe was missing about an inch of bushing on both sides. (I really didn’t want to admit in public that I never noticed. In my defense it was the top inch, not the bottom. But still.)
However, thanks to Al the Coat has a new subframe, trailing arm, and axle. Add in all new Ireland bushings (and the new serrated Ireland toe adjuster - so the toe was right on). AND a brand-new set of tires. The car actually stuck going through the carousel. That was a real novelty!
BTW, thanks also to David H for the rotors (and everybody else who offered a set). Typical Spec E30 paddock - everybody comes to your rescue!
+1, dang, that’s a lot of “go-wrong”. Bummer.
Lesson well learned. Beginning to prep the car today in time for Road Atlanta.
I am beginning to research a truck/van and trailer package.
Sebring is not on the calender for this year.
BTW Ranger, a younger fitter you would have gone over quite nicely with my neice. The observation was you had a “weary Kevin Costner” look about you. LOL

A few beers would fix me right up. I think tho I quit chatting up teenagers when I hit 40.
Altho that “fitter” line went down hard, lol.

You white guys all look the same…
That is funny.
Great write up and great fun.

Yeah no doubt, gotta thank the Palacio’s for the rotors that got me through my weekend.
Enjoyable weekend overall. Thanks to Jon and Eva for the added food, company and radio work. Great to see a bunch of fresh meat getting ready to join the rest of the spece30 crowd.
Saturday: qualified P6 and finished P4. Never close enough to Tower to threaten.
Sunday: qualified P3 but everything was changed since Nash (P1) decided to start in the back with Levine, Palacio and Tower. Got the lucky bump to P1 and was able to hold off the Walsh attack to finish P1. Ill take the gift from the above mentioned.
Thanks to David for helping me replace the old IE camber/toe kit to the new locking plates. Not an easy install and was a bear to adjust the toe but we locked down the new adjustment which was way more stable compared to Roebling. Looking forward to RA.
Video not worth posting.
Guys, it sounds like all had a great weekend; I’m looking forward to watching all the video clips.
If anyone from this event needs a signed Toyo form from me, please send me a PM with your email address and I’ll get it out to you. For those who already have it, remember you can reuse as often as needed, for SE races, for the rest of 2012.
See you all at RA in a few weeks.
Speaking of fresh meat joining the racing crowd…
Do you need a fully tech’d car, ( all spec, fire system, kill switch , race suit etc ) to go to / take comp school?

That means that no one will care what springs you have or any other strictly SpecE30 item, but all safety items need to be present. You can probably borrow a lot of stuff to make this work tho. Easy enough to borrow a suit and HNR. Harder to borrow a cage.
Thanks Ranger…The car is currently in Spec e30 form with the exception of the Fire system, Kill switch and window nets. Everything else is ready. I have gloves, boots, HANS / Helmet etc, just not the suit…Cage is fine.
Sounds like I need to get the Fire system and Kill switch installed before CS…Thanks for the reply.

Just put in a fire extinguisher for now and put in a real system later. Coord in advance and someone will bring you an extra suit.
You will need a log book and be fully teched prior to comp school. The fire bottle install isn’t that tough and there is lots of info on the kill switch install to help you.
