Dan - I am not a mechanic but have bled brakes on a lot of cars with ABS and without. It sounds like you still have some air in the system. I would try a good old fashioned 2 person bleed - without full depression of the pedal but with about 10 pumps before releasing the bleeder. I know some people don’t like them, but we use speed bleeders (www.speedbleeder.com - also available at Advance auto)which have a check valve to prevent air from entering during the bleed.
