What a great weekend. With the number of cars that we now have, there is always racing action to be had regardless of where you are in the pack. Congratulations to all our rookie drivers for completing comp school and their first big event.

Can’t wait to see some videos of the race from different cars. Can anyone give an update to the enduro results/weather. It was just starting to pour as I was leaving around 11:00.

All I can say about the enduro is it was great rain experience for me. There was standing water everywhere and people were going off left and right Going down the front and back straight the car was wagging the tail the entire way. I wasn’t comfortable going over 115mph for my half of the race (I started and pallister finsihed). I had some fun laps battling with Carter in the green car and tried to stay in front of David White in kappy’s car for about 10 laps. I was in the lead for about a half a lap until I went off in hog pen. I got back on track and managed to gain some spots and then the car decided to hydroplane at the kink on the front straight and I did everything I could to keep the car on the track and ended up going off in turn 1 at about 10mph. It took me about a minute to get back on track because the grass was so muddy. It was fun but It would have been more fun if it had been dry.

run down as of now…

Team herrington
green car
A. May and Vic Hall

that’s all I know

I met Jon at Lime Rock a couple of years ago at a BMWCCA event, he probably won’t remember me but he is definitely fast and I believe he raced a VW in SCCA as we were talking about the fun of driving a rear wheel drive car. I’m pretty sure he won one of races that weekend in KP in the Spec E30 car.

Guys let me know when mylaps is available I’ll update the track records if there were any. This is how they sit currently.

VIR Full
1 2.20.411 Carlton Goldthwaite
2 2.20.850 D. Herrington (which one?)
3 2.20.953 Chris Cobetto

Hey Bob, yep I’m the FNG to Spec E30. I started racing a red GTI with NASA in 2003. Ran PS1 and then GTS2 for the last two years. Cobetto has been daring me to come run Spec E30 since he found out I had one.

It’s great to see the series flourish the way it has. I’ve never run against 27 spec cars and I have to admit I had more fun this weekend then I can remember at the track. Awesome competition and everyone looked great out there, rookies included. Really lookin forward to March, everyone be sure to thank Chris again for nailing down that weekend.

Best,

Jon Allen

Hi Simon,
How’s it going? I never forget the fast guys. Thanks for the nice words. When is your car going to be finished? We are all in trouble when it is!!

Was racing against Casagrande that weekend, I took the win Saturday but he got me on Sunday.
I enjoyed getting to met everyone… I just hate that I didn’t get the chance to race with you guys. :frowning:

I’m going to restart my build soon and will be back out there.

I’ve posted some pics in the gallery I snapped off while ya’ll were out racing.
Scott please give us (RRT) a call if there is anything we can do to help you getting back to the track. Checked behind the shop Sunday night when we got back and remembered Seth sold the 318 so no parts scavenging solution there! I had a "time and place" conflict with the front straight armco on Sunday and have to source some body panels myself. Send me an e-mail (olson at roadracetech dot com) and I will try to coordinate both shipments if you want.

Hope you’re not too sore buddy.

Cheers,

Matt
Matt,

Thanks for checking on the parts and for the well wishing. My body isn’t feeling any pain. The ego however… is black and blue.

I’m going to be going to get a quote on repairs in a day or so. If it can be fixed—I hope to be back out there soon. If I’m starting over? it’ll be a while before I’m back on track.

The enduro also took some prisoners. The conditions were just insane.

<raises hand> Whelp, I was first place in something that race.

Scott, it’s not ego buddy. You got out there right after getting your license, tough track, hard charging competition, yadda yadda. Get back on that bitch boy! Dude, if you only had a clue of what I did in the enduro. We’re talking about putting it into the wall meters, not laps, after leaving the false grid. "Hmm, why is my tire spinning (open diff) I’m part throttle." Right hook, bang! into the armco under the start finish tower. Back up, right turn into pit out by the EVs and that was that.

There, public humiliation repeated just for you my friend. Now get that Beer Science or whatever thingy back out there. NASA damage appearance rule is like 500 meters at 140mph with one eye partial open if I you ask Jim Politi to recall the rule off hand. How 'bout the cars with their kitchen counters wrapped around the front end? That’s like intentional damage and what not.

I just finished a long write up detailing our early exit from the enduro and somehow it didn’t accept it. I’ll post it up sometime later.

Lol, coming from a guy who was almost as fast as my M3 in a 325.

First shake down will be in April at a driving school at Putnam. I’ll be doing mostly local stuff this year Mid Ohio, Putnam etc. I’m going to try to do Road Atlanta in August just to mess with Mr Moses and Patton :stuck_out_tongue: , and if there is anyway I can get to VIR in July I will as I can’t miss an event that has 26 cars or whatever it was, sounds like too much fun. Otherwise I will definitely be at this event next year, maybe we can have 40 cars or something silly like that

Yeah thats right, that was the weekend the pot hole formed in the uphill. Scott said you weren’t even trying to miss that thing but just going full speed ahead. Hope to see you on the track soon. Nationals should be a blast this year, looks like we will have our own run group if we keep the numbers up like this.

Results are on the NASA Mid-Atlantic website.

A change to the VIR full track record is in order:

Victor Hall - 02:20.076

I got some 2:18’s in me for March

Here’s my race report: I sucked. Short and sweet. Running as almost the slowest SpecE30 in the slowest class on track was not fun, nor was there really any "racing" to be had. I was kind of just runninig a glorified DE day that was scary as shit because I had fast cars overtaking me all day long. All I can say is I looked good getting passed, lapped, and humiliated, and I brought the car home whole.

are these race laps? Does qualifying count? If so I had a 2:20.1 for the enduro qualifying session. That was my 6th lap of the weekend I believe.

I’m really diggin all these creative paint jobs in Spec e30. I tried to add a little vinyl to my boring delphin gray car but its not enough. i better get Macco!
