Hey thanks guys for putting up the traqmate data. Really was interesting comparing my data to Skeen’s and Robinson’s. I’ll put mine up later comparing the three best laps, if anyone wants to see it  ?
Deciphering straight line speed
Sure, I would like to see it.
Watch out guys. Eric is going to be racing soon and kicking some butt.
Chi, we’ll be on the lookout. Posting fast lap times is one
thing.
Racing is altogether another.
There are lots of crafty bastards out there. There is lots of crazy stuff out there too.
And then, once you’ve think you’ve got it going-on, there’s racing with the MidAtlantic guys.

Good thread. Swapping data and helping each other get faster might put our “mediocre” moniker at risk, but I’m ok with that.
I really hope this post doesn’t come off wrong. I agree that the vast majority of complaints about getting “motored” can be traced to failings in setup and technique. The only way to remedy those is through relentless data mining and seat time like Jimmy has done.
“The kid who can’t skate says he has lousy skates.” True.
“The kid with sharp blades on his skates tells the guy with dull blades ‘learn how to skate.’” Also true IMHO.
Sometimes, there is an element to the equipment not being as ‘sharp’ as it should be. I take 100% responsibility for my car not being as happy/healthy as my friendly competitors. That takes absolutely nothing away from their podium finishes. But I don’t think you can completely dismiss the role that equipment plays in results.
That being said, Jim ran a great race and didn’t make any mistakes that I saw. Laura is at a whole new level somehow. She did a much better job managing traffic and taking an inside line when I should have taken a defensive line.
I take my hat off to them for beating me like a rented mule - fair and square. In my short (18 months) time watching this series, it seems to me that we are rapidly approaching the point where you have to show up at ANY race with good equipment, drive really well, make no mistakes, and catch an occasional brake if you want to win. I love it!
Here’s a couple laps from the beginning of the race on Saturday. The first lap is the only time I did 7 better than Jim. The whole race. Even on that lap I got walked pretty bad and I don’t think it was due to the bumpdraft I gave Jim (notice how much gap Laura makes up).
Great racing - and hanging out eating cake - with y’all!
Time to head to the dyno and get the car 100% for nationals!

About straightaway speed…I have TracMate files from last weekend, and from the ARRC. Same car, same tires, same driver, etc. Not the same motor. New motor makes 10hp/10ft-lb less than the old. TM shows corner speeds the same if not better last weekend, but the 10hp more is .8 second a lap faster. The difference is from 10b to two, 5 to 6, and 7 to 10a. If anyone wants the files, I can send them. Chuck

Doh! I love Vimeo, but I haven’t figured it out 100%.
Fixed now.

PS - Skeen - Do you watch these for the same schadenfreude reasons I watch YouTube clips of dumb teenagers rearranging their teeth on skateboards?
Steve your car probably could use a few more ponies.
Or you could dump the radio shack setup on the dash. 20lbs of weight that high up can’t help.
Also check the diff you might have a 3.23 in there now.
Jim, did I hear correctly that dyno night is next Tuesday?
If you’re in we’ll see if others can make the trip to Balanced.

I had hoped for Sat. That place might as well be in NC for me to get up there during the week. Get the details and I’ll see what I can do.

Same suspension (shocks and springs, max’ed camber @ 3.5 f, max’ed camber @ 2.5 rear), diff, drivetrain (aka no lightened flywheel, etc), weight, wheel weight and tire widths?
Improved touring prepared…14 X 7 Kumho 710, double adjustable Koni, custom sway bars, etc. Car weight 2600 going on the track. But that is not the point…It is a comparison of the same car with two different motors, one 10/10 greater than the other. Chuck
