Aw c’mon…A statement like that takes all of the fun out of it.

I don’t doubt your logic but your build sheet to field a safe car does total <$9,000 excluding the car.

I am planning to convert my street car on which much of the maintenance issues have already been addressed. I also happen to have all of the driver gear from previous race experience so I techncally would not be counting all the money I have already spent. Perhaps this is Enron accounting but sometimes we need to fudge the numbers so we won’t scare ourselves off before we start.

Traqrat, You forgot the $10,000 for a tow vehicle and the $2,000 to $10,000 for a trailer!!!

Heck, sounds like alot of money. Why are we doing a second car Tom?

Real racers drive their race cars to the track. And usually drive them home, too!

I used to be a real racer, but then after a 4 hour drive home, my ears were ringing for the next 3 days. That’s when I decided to drop 40k into a truck and trailer. :frowning:

Just buy a house near every track you plan to race at…I drove my car to VIR last weekend, 4 min drive, was nice…and seriously will probably drive to CMP again this summer. I hate towing, would rather wear the earplugs.

Wouldn’t that also require keeping a racecar at each one of those houses?

Thanks for the feedback folks. I’m planning on starting with a stock car in HPDE and building the car up as I build up my skills. Spending 10-15k over a period of a few years isn’t too unreasonable for me. And if I find this isn’t going to work for me it’s probably easier to get my money out of a well maintained streetable e30 than a full race car.

I’ve already got a truck, and it’s capable of pulling an e30 (it pulled Steve’s car at CMP). I’d probably just drive the car to the local tracks, CMP and Rockingham are a reasonable drive.

Sounds like a good plan. If you continue to build towards Spec E30 rules you will likely have a market to sell a partially-prepared car, and most of the stuff is pretty streetable already until you strip the interior and put in a cage. Good luck with your build.
