yeah, I used this video on another site to get a friend to think twice about just installing aluminium wings on a metal seat …

nobody is going to fail you for tech or protest you if the only purpose of the mod is to attach a safety net, IMHO

I don’t want to be a pain, but that car with the hole in the dash is not built according to that rule (7.4.3.)
If I’m wrong, I apologize, and would like an explenation to that rule, and if that it’s an acceptable exeption that tech inspectors would overlook since it’s a safety issue.[/quote]

Bruce is correct.

I’m removing the center vents and attaching the net to the dash bar or weld a tab to the dash bar and attach it there. Pics coming after I get car back from cage installer (next week??)
I’d like to know what’s the difference between all these side or dragster nets, if there is any.

the picture in the latest Grass roots mag was my only idea on how to mount this thing.
Ron Carroll at REC motorsports (the one who gave me my log book)said he wanted to see it a little lower for the frontal and side impact to justify its placement. I/O port said a little higher to prevent head movement in side impact.

I am confused with the whole idea.
Just spent 700+ on my sparco evo so i aint buying a new one…

I will chat with the tech inpector at thunderhill this weekend and get back to the forum with what they are saying on the west coast.

the intent is to catch your shoulder with the lower strap, and the top strap should be more than half way up your helmet.

You don’t need this net if your seat has helmet support already built-in, correct?
A good net is $100. A decent regular seat $600. A Recaro seat with built-in helmet support, pricelss.

OK I figured it was time to start figuring out the Center Net mounting before the July VIR event. I have a behind dash center bar so I guess the trick is to mount to that.

Has anyone taken out the center vents? Can I get them out without having to remove the dash itself. Don’t know much about welding but should someone be able to weld a tab to the center bar through the vent openings or will the dash have to come off or be cut to allow the tab?

Thanks to anyone who has been there and done that!

the vents can be removed without removing the dash. You need to get a hook like tool or coat hanger to pull them out.

the way I have my straps are: top strap on the top center of mail hoop. middle strap on the center bar. the bottom strap is attaced on the main hoop wraped behind the seat at the b pillar.

not sure if this pic will show you much but it’s all I’ve got.

fwiw: the net looks low due to the angle and I’m not totally straped in

I just installed my center net, and was surprised at how easy it was. I got the Team-tech net from Bimmerworld, which has enough strap to loop around the necessary bars (i.e. no welding necessary). I went straight through the center vent to my dash-bar. Then it’s just a matter of adjusting all the straps, which is no worse than messing with your belt adjustments.

Here is what Sam came up with for my new cage. It’s a eyelet coming out the radio hole. It way be low, but I’m not counting on this anyway, I’ll be getting a new seat with Head protection.

OK, all my pics are too big, I’ll go adjust the cam and get more today.
