Brake pad life (front and rear)

Type Carbotech in the Search Forum box and you can read about what people have tried. Frankly, there’s not much Carbotech experience out there because Hawk & PFC have been more aggressive with contingency. I consider Danny Puskar a friend and have run his (CT) brakes on my Miata, but I have mostly run Hawks on the E30. It eliminates one variable between me and the others. Besides, someone always has a spare set for emergencies.

The biggest advantage I have seen with CT’s is modulation at threshhold braking, but if your ABS is operational, that is less of a concern I guess. I think I ran XP12 front and XP10 rear.
I was unaware of contingency with those other two guys. That definitely throws a wrench into the plans.

Always liked the fact that I saw Danny at the track, supporting the racers.

Do not race on these pads, frankly I wouldn’t want to even do track days on them. They are fine for beginners doing track days but not for advanced students or competition.
I learned on Ferodo’s back in 92  - Comparatively R4S’s are great pads… But not for racing, I was just making a point. The OP is a racer and gets it I am sure.

Yes they are, they are just not suitable for racing at Midwest Tracks like BFR or RA or GingerMan, you might get away with them at Willow Springs :woohoo:

I never understood why “brakehawk” always ate my pads until I came out West… Now I get it - when you add 6 straights one after another you end up with nubbies not brakes.

I like your thinking

But yes, I think we’ll all want to run Hawk’s… I like the Blues.

I’m using HT-10’s front and rear and they have about 6 events on them. HPDE only though.

I looked them over last weekend and I still have plenty of pad left. The rotors have some stress cracks, but nothing to be concerned about. Going to Summit next weekend to instruct, so I’ll see after that if they have any more life left in them.

I tried Axxis, Carbotech and Hawks in three different cars, and I only use Hawk blue or ht10 if they are available for front and rear. They last me forever, last season one set that included three weekends and nationals. After that the front were destroyed, cracked, looked like crumbles.
Plain oem rotors (Brembo, Zimmerman, etc), blank, not wasting money on slotted or drilled or bling. They last the same as the pads, well I change them together, even if they look ok, just like last set.
Running in Socal you have the “fastest track” (Willow Springs) in the West so not many chances to wear out the brakes, and BW has only one straight where you really push the braking point.
