Best E30?

I think the "is" cars also came with different sways, which you obviously remove as well. The basketweaves are illegal, too (don’t get me started)!:stuck_out_tongue:

The stated conclusion is correct: LSD is the only thing of real value on an "is" car.

That’s not entirely true. Especially with the way that you have stated it. There are a lot of parts that are of value on an "is" vs. an "i"

Sure you strip them off and don’t use them in your race car, but there is a much better market for those striped of "is" parts. Steering wheel, fog lights, sport seats, map light rear view… that’s almost $800 worth. That’ll get you a HANS.

You’re missing my point. If your are slower, I will go around you. If we are equal in speed and lap times then it may make sense to work together to get away from the rest of the field. Perhaps this is why Vic and I don’t ever post our videos… nuff said![/quote]

I’m joining this thread a little late, but Jonny is right on. We’ve used the bump draft VERY effectively to check out from the racers behind us. I’m always up for a little push…that’s if you can catch me first;)

Maybe those of us that don’t mind bumping should have "Push me" stickers on the back of the cars so everyone knows who’s ok with it. B) Actually, I’d say more cars in the Autobahn/Lightning group are fine with it, maybe there should be a "Don’t touch" sticker.

I like that, Mike! Maybe we should just use a sticker like "this car is insured by Smith and wesson", that may be more fun!

The more I have thought on the subject, the more I am sure that at some point in the future, I’d love getting a helping hand, but for now, mark me down as one that is too "green" to this whole thing to feel like saying, gimme a push!

My point was more along the lines of a "brand new SpecE30 driver" asking about on-track contact. Maybe I’m off-base but I doubt many of the Spec E30 racers want this to become the league of choice for what I’d call the "rookie, full-contact, bump drafting" drivers. Again, correct me if I’m wrong!

I’m with you, Jeff. I am not going through all the trouble of building this race car just to see it get banged up intentionally!

My car’s already ugly, just hit it.

As one who has raced in SCCA Improved Touring, and other series for the past 14 years, it is clear that some drivers like to drive more aggressively and others do not. IT is an aggressive series, BMW CCA is not, and Spec E30 is pretty-much in the middle. Some in Spec E30 are new, or are here to have fun and keep their cars clean. That’s great. Some are more aggressive and competitive and don’t mind a bumper scratch to finish well. But virtually everyone wants to avoid damaging impacts, thus the NASA Rules on contact. And we follow those NASA contact rules very closely.

Our fields are bigger but we will still know who we are racing with and how other drivers like to race. For drivers just entering the series, I strongly suggest you get to know the drivers, and where you fit in the field, prior to making any bump draft contact.
