Well here is a link to Saturday’s race from the broken car. I did manage to get close enough to Jim, Laura, and Bill to 1) show how pathetic my car was in a straight line and 2) catch Bill’s almost spin in turn 1.

It was my first time at Barber and it was completly different than what I pictured.
With all the talk of it realy being a "motorcycle track, very short straights, not many places to pass, technical" and all that, I thought it was going to be slow and about like a go-cart track to drive on. I dont know about you guys (and gals) but I was pleasantly suprised! I knew the track was nice but I had no idea it would look like a golf course in the mountains. After a few sessions, the track was easy to get comfortable with, fast and fun. Granted, I have never "ALMOST" been hit so many times in one weekend, but it was still awesome. Both races were a blast. I had to use my agricultural accident avoidance racing lines during Saturdays race much more than on Sunday even with 72 cars on track. I realy cant beleive we went an hour with no lasting Yellows! Heres a few pics at the track and an edited short version of Sundays race. I’ll try to get some of Saturdays up later. Can’t wait till next year!!!

As one of the Mid Atlantic "invaders" I must say that the Southeast puts on a good show. Everyone was a pleasure to hang out with at the track and at the local resturants, including the "spirited" discussions prior to entering the track Friday evening.

Regarding the racing, the Spec E30 drivers are very talented and know that we were all there to enjoy the weekend.

As for my racing, I got stuck in a pack of 944s during the Saturday qualifying session. I did a drive-through but came out in another pack of 944s. To their credit, they were good neighbors but the inherent differences in the cars just made it tough for me to get a good lap. I ended up 5th of our 14 cars.

During the race, I was able to move up through the pack but couldn’t quite get up to Mike Skeen. His flawless racing kept me behind for the first half of the race and his traffic management extended his lead until I was no longer a real threat for the win. But finishing second was very satisfying.

For the Sunday "Pot Luck" enduro, I too added a spare tire and was probably 75 pounds overweight at the checker. I started 44th and was able to catch Damion about halfway through the race. I had a couple of chances for a dive-bomb pass attempt but this was the last race of the season, other faster cars were coming through, and Damion was driving very well. We had several fun racing laps…which was really more FUN than finishing second by myself on Saturday.

And at Spec E30, it’s not about the cars, it’s about the racing.

I look forward to racing with the Southeast guys and gal again next year.
