Barber Race stories

I have to say it was nice to have a turn-key weekend for a change (my first one in almost two years of racing). The car was running (surprisingly) well, and through some miracle I qualified 4th on Saturday for the standing start behind Matt. Considering the driveline in the car wasn’t even taken apart when it was installed over the winter I was worried about the clutch standing up to the start. Everything held together and I got a great jump getting by Matt and trying to slot in behind Damion going into the carrousel. In typical Green/Yellow racing style I dropped a couple of wheels on the outside of turn 1 (I felt like I could have been given a little more room), but regardless instead of coming out of the carrousel in ~2nd place, I was in 7th place. It took a few laps to regain some positions and about halfway through the race I found myself in a pretty intense battle with David Walsh through the rest of the race. It was a blast and despite many shenanigans on my part I was unable to get back by him finishing 5th. In hindsight I should have stopped on the front straight and let Robert by for a free set of brakes… Hmmmmm. The only downside of the race was the fact that my camera battery died before the epic battle with David started. :frowning:

Sunday’s qualifying session was a bit slower than Saturday and I ended up mid-pack for the start. It took a lap or two to get sorted and not long after that to realize that for some reason or another I just didn’t have what it took to move up through the field. Per Geiger I spent up the tires trying to not let Robert/Laura out of my grasp. The aforementioned Miata made things interesting and as I saw Geiger slowly gaining on me I was afraid the Miata was going to drop me another position. I have to say after cursing up a storm, I smirked as Craig got screwed just as badly as I did (maybe worst). One lap to go, I found had reeled Robert/Laura in and found myself within striking distance of Laura. I tried to get my nose in with a couple corners to go and found myself staring at a wall about with the rear coming around. Thankfully I tank slapped and saved it without going all the way around, hitting anything/anyone, or more importantly giving 7th to Craig.

I’ll post the video I did get from Saturday and Sunday’s race up soon.

Don’t make me drive to Texas to replicate your ‘victory’.

Racing, much like other sports, is about getting into your competitors head. Mindgames. I do what I need to do to get the job done.

Turning on the windshield wipers in mid turn is definitely a sign of true amateur hour. Like I said about that video… Nothing to see here.

I’ve already won a sprint race, won as a team owner of an enduro winning car… it’s really only downhill from here. I’m like Penske and Schumacher, combined into one good looking human being.

What a blast! Great racing in the back for my second rookie weekend. Fun exchanges with Jones, Stroup, Mcmennamy and Levie. Look forward to the next race without a “R”.

Jim, I’ll drive your car in the sprints if you want to concentrate on the enduro.

Levie, I said clockwise! :side:

No I just figured that Craig can only make his one shining moment at CMP last for so long. He can learn a lot about stretching those stories out from JP.

Bitter, bitter, bitter…

I wondered how many cracks I’d get in before you showed up!

Another great DTOM blog entry, Jimbo. Hilarious and painful all at the same time. We should all take bets on what you did bad in a prior life.
